6/01/02 Freezer Fillers

Now that the mad spring days are over and the daytime heat is becoming more of a hindrance than the prayed for warmth that we held in our dreams during the cold winds of March.  Gone are the mornings when the fingertips were too cold to feel the subtle tap of that monster bass on the end of a soft plastic.  Now, my attention turns towards putting large numbers of fish in the boat with the intention of keeping just enough to keep me eating fish until next summer.

This time of the year is the best time to fill the freezer with crappie, catfish, or sand bass.  They have turned to a pattern that is so predictable that putting dinner on the table should be a sure thing.  The second best part about this time of year is that almost all of my fishing is done under the light of the moon with no sun burs or heat strokes. Night time fishing is, in my opinion, one of the most relaxing summer activities available to the public.
