We had a great time in Missouri this past weekend. We left on Thursday late due to the plumbing issues I have at the house. At the last minute I had to pull the new laminate flooring I installed last summer from the hallway -- what a pain. Anyway, I arrived at the stream Friday morning and bought my license, trout stamp, and park fishing permit (got my hunting license while I was there). The whistle to start fishing didn't sound until 7:30am so i had a some time to make sure my favorite jig was tied on, my stringer and pliers were out, and my fishing spot streamside was secured. It was a chilly morning and the waiting to fish was killing me. There were a couple of local young-uns waiting to fish also. Looking Downstream at my favorite hole: The Upstream View: When the whistle sounded the lines hit the water and immediately I had a trout on but he shook the hook and got off. For the next half hour I watched rainbows chase my jig and at the last second they would turn away. I could not figure out a presentation that they prefered. I moved upstream a little bit and managed to get another trout on the line and again he managed to shake the hook. Getting a little frustrated as my fingers were loosing feeling I moved more upstream some more and worked the holes. Finally, I ended up hooking another fish and this one made it all the way to the bank and onto the stringer. Now I had the task toting around a stringer with one fish while trying to add more to the tally. A littel further upstream I managed to hook into a nice goggle-eye and got a little more line stretch for the morning. While fishing I noticed some of tha park locals meandering around the parking lot: Another spot on the stream: Would have been fun to catch: Finally, I gave up after watching at least 20 different trout chase my jig just to turn a snooty nose to it. I tried a couple different baits and gave up. When I arrived back at the cabin I caught the expected rationing of greif from the family for only catching 1 trout. My prize catch: The cabin: On Sunday we all went back to Meremac for a picnic and walk around the park. We spend about $10 in quarters getting fish food to feed all the trout in the hatchery. The kids just love doing that. Unfortunately, I did not have the digital camera while we were doing that. When they dropped me off at the cabin to go hunting they went back to the park to see the sites we did not make after the picnic. This time they brought the camera with them. Here are a few random pics All my girls: At the dam: They too had some visitors coming out for an evening meal. The deer at this park could care less about people around there.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

The hunt was great, I had deer within 30 yards of me almost every time I set the stand. I saw deer every time I hunted. I had a huge bodied deer come within 15 yards but the light was so low all I could see was his neck meeting his belly and that he was a monster sized deer. He took the path that led down wind of me instead of coming in front of me. There were deer trails everywhere and the pre-rut has started up there. Here I was hunting without my horns, my grunt call, or my bleat can. I basically just sat and waited for them to come to me. It was very refreshing to get out and scout for a stand location, hang a stand, and have deer in front of me. I have been hunting leases too long and kinda miss doing it that way sometimes. All said and done, I had 2 opportunities to harvest deer and the outcomes were not so pleasant. I did sharpen up on my blood trailing ability though. The first one will live and the second one was hopefully found by the neighbors after they went to get their dog -- she jumped the fence and it was raining. I am working on my writeup for TBH as soon as I can get my USB port fixed on my laptop. I used my wife's laptop for this story and her picture editing software sucks... It was beautiful up there and I am ready to go back for another hunt. I already told my wife that I have the tags... Might as well go use them... Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I really want to go back this year and do more bow hunting. I talked to the owner last night and learned that 2 years ago there was a 180" buck shot 2 miles from his place. The 140 that is on the wall in the cabin (we never stayed in that cabin before) is not the largest deer he has killed on the place. When he told me several years ago that he had a little 8 point on the wall I never knew that a "little" 8 point was 140 inches. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I agree, for the last couple years I have seen tons of doe on his property. I did not start hunting out there until last year. I just assumed that the deer were average 120 class bucks. He gets very little pressure on the deer and the only people to rifle hunt are himself and his kids. Here is a picture of the buck on the wall
