My uncle and friends flew in from Ks Saturday and we immediately left for the Annual fishing trip. Sunday morning comes around & finds me fishing a local lake for some speckle trout and reds. Fishing was kind of slow and winds got stronger as day went along. Ended up with about 20 speckle trout between two of us. The rest of the guys went bass fishing and caught a few also. While cleaning some fish that afternoon the local pests came along so as any good Coonie we decided to have some fun with the Jayhawks. My cuz in law did not think it to funny when we brought it in the camp though. Unlike most good Coonies however he lived another day instead of becoming supper. Eat your heart out Picou! Fished Sunday evening for trout with just about the same results. Monday the wind really blew. Trout Fishing was slow for me and very few caught. I wanted to go redfishing but just could not stomach thought of being in marsh in the wind. The guys bass fishing did pretty well though. I stayed at the camp with my dad to fry fish, drink a few adult beverages, and have a little alone time with the old man. Most of the guys skunked that evening but one of the boats caught about 20 bass and 3 reds. Good job guys! Tuesday came with wind still blowing. Tried trout for about an hour with no results. I've had it. We are going redfishing which is my speciality. Get in the marsh to find high waters and lots of wind. But we found some redfish. If my fishing partner could have kept up we would have limited but can't complain due to caught a few. I had to come back today to go to work tomorrow but they will be out there until Thursday. Will be rough returning to the old desk! While we did not load the boats these past few days they have plenty of fish to go back with. |

Great stuff bigun... Although you did not completely wear 'em out it looks like it was a great time and enough fish to last that Kansas crew a few weeks.... Too funny on the gator, looks like a 5+ footer... I would probably be just as happy taking a picture and releasing it as to go thru the hassle of cleaning a gator that size for 5 pounds of meat. I can just hear your dad laughing now though... Thanks for remember the camera buddy, I bet ya'll ate great!!!!!!! I am going home and having some Mickey Brown's tamales tonight. We cooked my 1 rainbow trout with some steaks and my mother in law ate most of it but shared with Connie and I -- the kids didn't want any. I guess I forgot to post the picture of the steaks on the grill... Oh well. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

BTW, forgot to mention: notice the two nocks in the alligator tail. That means it is a farm raised released alligator. The farms collect the eggs off the wild alligator nests to get their stock. They have to release 17% of this population back into area eggs taken from. They have absolutely no fear of humans and have become quite a nuisance to camp owners. |
