Sure do like Texas. Extremely slippery driving conditions in Batavia NY this morning closed Route 20 between Alexander and Pavilion. Parts of that 10 mile stretch are gradually being opened up.
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said numerous vehicles ran off of Route 20 early this morning. Many of those vehicles are being pulled back onto the roadway now.

Deer season opened Saturday couldn't make it back up there but my homies are in deer camp at the log cabin we built when we were teenagers. Don't miss the driving or shoveling but snow during opening week means their gonna find the monster bucks and track em down.

Had a project up that way with NYSDOT. Spent some time in NY where 20 intersects with 87, about 5-miles (if that) south of Quebec. It was pretty, but looks like it could get downright cold.

Heck, my wife has decided that it is not cold enough for the heater yet. We have been heating the house with the fireplace. Feels great in the living room but colder than a witches teat in the mornings crawling out from under the down comforter... :-) Her goal is to make it to January 1st without turning on the heater -- not too sure I can make it that long!

If your gonna use your fire place to heat your house, you need an air tight insert for the fire place, kinda like a wood stove inside a fireplace. Without one, an open fireplace just sucks the heat out of the rest of the house especially if the fire goes out during the night.

That is exactly what we have -- an insert. It has a fan that blows air out the top. The biggest problem is not having good circulatioin down the hallway into the bedrooms. I need to just buy one of those doorway fans that will force air down the hallway but I'm too cheap to spend the $29.99... :-)

When I was up in the frozen tundra, my father in-law swore by the stand alone wood stove..
yeah-right.
It would burn you OUT of the room it was in and you would freeze to death everywhere else..

One thing I learned from him was, HEAT will not go around corners with a wood burning stove.
It was common place to see 10' degrees on the thermometer every morning, and we lived in a trailer house to top that off.
