OK, So I'm 43 yrs old, and have yet to catch a double digit bass. I picked up a bass boat last year, Joined a local bass club, and have been throwing my arm off this year.
I've caught some really nice bass, but have yet this year, OR for that matter, ever caught a 10 lb'er.

So my question is. If I was to start my quest for a picture with a Hawg what would I do?

If I understand what I'm reading Feb and March are historically good months. Is this true? If so, what lake should I be spending my time on? What pattern would I be wise to be spending my time with?
Not looking for anyone's specific "Honey Hole". That would be like prying a $1 bill out of Picou's secret money stash!! LOL......
Just a general area/direction to start my search. Thanks ahead of time for the help.
Shaun

Shaun, whatz your 20 ?? Where you live man ??

That might help by putting you on the best water near your home..

Creek channels mid cove with cover go big and go slow. Jigs or worms for Big Fish in cold water. The best place to look is where the big fish live in good numbers..

I live in Gainesville ( At Hwy 35 & Hwy 82 intersection).
I was on lake Nocona last year and had a buddy get a bigg'un to the side of the boat. I think that lake has potential. But I've only been on it twice.
Just not sure how many targets are out there in that lake?
When it's cold do I still need to use a larger profile bait?
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

If it matters GM I've been fishing Fork for years and have still haven't busted a 10 yet. I fish there 3 or 4 times a month for the last 3 years and the last two years I haven't landed one over the slot...I've caught many very close and many 8's but not a 10! You keep doing what RedSkeeter says and you'll get one!!
I have a friend that caught a 10 this year from Ray Bob...

The quest for a 10+ is a lofty goal to say the least but not unattainable. I finally broke the mark in Aprl 2000 with an 11.36 and have only come close with 9+ fish twice since then -- both in February/March time frame.

As has already been said, you have to fish where there are plenty of big fish. Close to your place is Ray Roberts and it has plenty of double digit bass in it to increase your chances of catching one. In the late winter/spring time these bigger fish move up shallower to spawn. It is rare that the really big fish will spawn in plain sight. Usually they are out just a little bit deeper -- 4 - 6 foot.

My two largest bass have come on the split-shot lizard. The other came on a split-shot JDC Bait Gibroni. Of all the large fish I have lost over the years they were either on a jig or a texas rigged 10" worm fished deeper.

There is a whole lot more to go with this topic but I cannot consistently put 10 pounders in the boat so I am probably not the best to give advice.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Well heck,I didn't realize that I was setting such a high goal. I see that some of ya'll spend a lot of time on the lake.Probably more then I.Or I should say, I'm fishing a lake that doesn't historically produce monster bass ( Moss Lake)It's a 1,140-acre impoundment with a BB record in the 13+ pd range.
It's about 6 miles from the house, and allows me to slip away for a few hours fishing after work 4 to 5 days of the week. It's a neat little lake, but I think it's just over fished!!!
It has a Tuesday night Bass tournament with 20-30 boats fishing it for the last few years. :-(

I think one of my major problems is that I'm not fishing where the large numbers of bigg'uns hang out.

I bought a topo map last year of Ray Roberts. I think it was called Martins Map?
It was a pretty good map, showing a lot of details.
I guess Ray Roberts is about 10 miles from the house if I put in on the NW shore.I'll have to start driving a little farther, to get on RR more often to learn the lake.

So it sounds like it would be good to wait until the spawn starts to get started? Do the larger bass hit more or less in the colder months compared to smaller bass?
What temperature does it need to be before the Bass start moving up with loving on their mind?

Man, I'm sorry for so many silly questions.I just would like to get on some larger bass then I did this year.

Thanks again
Shaun

Roberts is not what it used to be, but it's coming back.

Look in Wolf, Indian, Isle Dubois(sp),and Buck creeks for lots of timber and locate the creek channels. Right now focus about mid-to 3/4 ways
back in these huge creeks and fish the edges of channel bends and odd features that come close to the channel focus on 6-15 foot.
As the water warms into the 50-55 degree range
the shallow water will start holding some bigger fish staging in "the flats" near the channel bends in the very backs of the creeks move up closer to the banks.

Be very quiet and move with stealth, you don't always have to present a large bait to catch a big fish, a plain old TX rigged Black worm is very hard to beat on RayBob.

Study the map and learn it so when you’re on the water you can interpret what’s beneath you. (very important)

RayBob is the only Lake I've caught 3-overs in one day during competition, and still came in second..

I won a Tournament with a 10.4 lber the first event I ever fished there.
It’s an amazing Lake, if you invest the time it takes to master it's secrets, you'll meet your goals and then some.

I'm know expert, but if I can help further I'd be glad to mark a map up for you..

Good luck. That's been my goal for the last 15 years of bass fishing. My biggest downfall is I get easily discouraged when I'm not getting bites and when targeting big fish the bites are few. I end up back in the shallower water or switch to smaller baits where the bite is more consistant.

About 8 years ago I went with a friend who had hired guides for a number of years with one goal,
to land a 10+ on Ray Roberts. We went during the week because at that time RR was getting pounded on the weekend. We launched at RR Marina and went directly to the end of the submerged road FM 1190
where it crosses the end of a point. It is the old FM 455 also.
He was Carolina dragging a 6" watermellon/red lizzard and felt a monster bite.He got it in the boat and it weighed 10.2lb He reached his goal after 5 years of trying. It was caught in April.
Hope this helps you.

OK Ok...I got ya covered...This winter take a 1/2oz Black and blue Terminator jig with a Zoom Super Chunk Sapphire Blue trailer and hit Buck Creek. Focus on creek channels like KBD said and throw at the big trees and stubs in 10-12ft but it can be less...you can start doing this right now but Jan - Feb will be better...10's are hard to come by but trist me you'll get some very nice fish doing this. The number will be low so your fishing for just a few bites a day...Think about braided line or 17plus flouro...

Also 3/4oz KVD Strike King pro spinnerbait any color as long as it's white will work!!

That's it Man...let me know when you get her because I'll be waiting. In fact I'm not going fish until you get her so let get with the program please :-)

The sinker has been vacant lately... Sore fingers I guess.

Hey guys Gordon is accepting entry fee money now if you want to pull a early flight. The sinker paid his yesterday, Media, Bass Champs and the Super Teams event. Ouch!!! that cost a pretty penny I bet..

Since Zach can only catch the fish Eric shows him. I would hate to see if Glade was shut down, then what would you do?
I guess you and Yankmee can troll for Muskies down by the dam!

Spooning with Wes...... Do I detect a hint of jealousy.....

I'll gladly take over the trolling motor, I need all the excuses I can get! Also, keeps me from being beer biatch!!!! Wes definately needs to keep the back chair tho because he couldn't hardly stand up half way into it. Heck, he almost fell out of the boat sitting down!

Of all my nights fishing on that lake, that has to be one of the best night trips I have been on -- despite my lack of fish catching and total humiliation dished out by the two of you.
