In my opinion, the spring and the fall/winter are the best months for most species. First off, Welcome to The Ramp Aggie_pirate.... As far as your question, this is a fairly broad question. Right now, the saltwater inshore fish are up in the marshes feeding heavily. In freshwater, the crappie are bunched up in deep water and fairly easy prey. Next month the sandbass and stripers will start to migrate towards their spawning areas and become easier to target and catch around the mouths of major creeks. Then, into February they start migrating up the rivers and creeks to spawn and can be caught fairly easily from the shore where there is current. As the water temps warm, the crappie and black bass move up shallow to prepare for spawning and they become easier targets. In May the catfish are starting to spawn and they will be up shallow in large numbers. It really all depends on what species you are wanting to chase and if you understand the habits of that species you can catch them any time of the year. If you can be a little more specific on what you are wanting to catch, maybe I could be of more help. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I still love the fall after it cools down from 100+ days, and before the cold winter wind stars a blowing. Shaun I can do everything through him who gives me strength. Phil 4:13

Right now they are on at Fork for sure.......fished Monti on Saturday in the freaking wind and cold but still caught fish. The water temp was around 71-74 and the fish were shallow. Caught a few off beds and all the others hitting the banks weightless. Then yesterday fished fork for about half the day in a total change of weather......what a day no wind and mild temps with sun. Caught fish the whole time with 4 over 5 lbs and a solid limit of rats that would have pushed the 10lb mark no doubt. The fish are fat as heck if you don't think so look what won the JC on Saturday......11.74 of unders. Eric had mid to high 9 and didn't even get a check. Fork is on for it only being the beginning of January and I can't wait to see what it takes to get paid on Febuary 14th. Catching Big Ole PIGS...
