Man I've got a case of cabin fever BAD!! I'm getting so tired of just sitting here I'm seriously thinking about hooking up and heading to the lake.
It has got me thinking though.

How man of you hard core Bass fisherman go fishing when it's down in the 30's?

I used to do that when I was younger, I just don't care for it as much as I used to.

The only time hit it out when it's in the 30's with wind is if I have to fish a tourney.

Can you say Monticello or Welsh?

No really the fishing out at Fork has been unbelievable the last few weekends with the water temp only holding around 44-46 degrees. You'll be able to find them usually this time a year if you catch one.....there's a whole bunch right in the same area.

Monticello always seemed like with the water being 65-70 degrees, it made the air temp around you a little warmer, or was that just my imagination?

Never thought about a power plant lake. Good call.

I'm going to give Fork another try here pretty soon. When does the spawn usually kick in to gear on Fork?
I've been there three times, and have two fish to show for my efforts in the past :-(. But that's been about 15 yrs since I've been on the lake.

I ended up holding down the couch, watching old re-runs on the TV all day.
Looks like it's going to get up in to the fifties tomorrow. I'll hook up after church to see if I can find a afternoon bite.

Suck it up cowboys 30 is warm. We would fish the lower Niagara year round down into and under the twentys, the river never freezes - tried a couple times below zero not much fun when your hands get wet. You southern boys need to toughen up some. All ya need is some good cold weather gear and a warm honey in flannel pjs and knee socks greatin ya at the door when ya get home with some irish coffee.

Dang HH, you mean you get $$$ for fishing? Heck all it's doing for me is running up a another bill to pay :-).

Congrats on the paypack!

I just got in from a fishing local lake. Three hours of fishing and a big goose egg for the fish being caught today.
I found them stacked up on a main lake point from 18'-27' deep. I pounded them in the head with every lure I could think of using. But I still came up empty handed. I'm telling ya. That Hummingbird Side View really stinks!! It will show you all the fish that are down there that you CAN'T catch. LOL........

Congrats HH on the cash... I talked to Scott Dean yesterday to congratulate him on his 3-peat win on Palestine. Sounds like he was on some fish... Of course, I could get nothing out of him on where, what, how, etc... :-)

As far as the original question... I only fish in this type of weather at a power plant lake -- if the trip is already scheduled... Or I will fish this weather for a tournament. As far as waking up one day and deciding to go fishing when it is cold/nasty -- ain't gonna happen... :-)
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Hate to call you on this one Mike, but I remember many moons ago I went fishing for the first time with some dude I meet on the internet. It was raining cats and dogs, lighting on the way to the lake and COLD! We did catch some nice fish too!

If I don't have to fish in it, I'm not going to anymore. Guess I'm just not that mad at the fish anymore.

OOuch Come on tommyc nothin armchair about it, we fished the lower niagara year round in mustang survival suits. If ya waited for good weather up there you'd never leave the house so ya just gear up. Looky here:

Bill Hilts weekend fishing report Friday 01/23/09
Lower Niagara River ~ After last week’s report, the super cold conditions created some tough ice situations that affected the launch ramp areas – anglers were locked out from launching their boats. Finally on Tuesday, Capt. Vince Pierleoni of Newfane started to break through the ice and create an opening. The Village of Lewiston Public Works crew showed up with some heavy equipment to open the launch ramp up to allow boaters access. Unfortunately, a north wind and the excessive ice played a role in limiting fishing success. Most of the boats braving the cold collected four to six fish, with eggs or egg imitations the best bait to use off three-way rigs. If the wind switches around, Kwikfish will be a favorite bait to pull through the water. Capt. John DeLorenzo of Niagara Falls reported good success on Wednesday despite the cold conditions, catching over a dozen steelhead for the day.

I hear ya Yank but I am also hearing "back in the day"

But how many times have you been on the lake the last two months when it's been too cold to feel your hands most of the morning or most of the day?

Last tourney I fished was Jan 10th, morning temps temps in the 30's with the NW wind 20-30 right off the get go. Warming up and continued windy the rest of the day. I fished that day because it was scheduled, but that would not be a day that I would have picked to go out and enjoy some time on the water.

If you fished on Saturday, then I take back the armchair comment. What lake did you fish?

I would only have fished Saturday if I had to. If I remember right, it was a little breezy here at the house Saturday.

I will be on Fork this upcoming Saturday tho -- no matter what the weather... It has been way too long since I have had the boat out (November I believe).
