As y'all well know I'm pretty much a newbie at serious Bass fishing. Yea I can catch fish, drive a boat,so on and so on. But I would like to be able to fish a real tourney soon and feel that I'm not just (for sure)throwing my $$$ away.

I've been reading and watching Bassmasters here on the net a lot here lately. One thing that I've seen that is a common note, is that some of the guys are catching bass all the time. So what gives? What are they doing that others aren't?

Also what is the best source to learn the In's and outs of tournament fishing? Or for that matter, what is a good source to learn more about Bass fishing in general?
Thanks for helping the newbie :-)
Shaun

The absolute best source is to fish as a Co-Angler on some of the big circuits, Stren, FLW, has a lot of co-stuff .. You can learn the lakes and observe how the process works and how you can apply it to your style.. JM2C's

I would agree with Billy. Fishing with other folks that have some experience is a good way to go.

Even fishing with different folks when you are just fun fishing would be beneficial.

Time on the water is one of the most critical things to improving your skills. But, you also have to make the best of that time. If what you are doing is not working you have to be open minded and try something else.

As mentioned above, fishing as a co-angler can be very beneficial from learning the "in's and out's" of tournament fishing but it can also be very frustrating when you draw some idiot with more money than sense who doesn't have a clue about bass fishing.

Attend some weigh-ins and watch how they work things, join a bass club, fish a couple of cheap open tournaments with the mindset that it is for learning.

One other thought is to post specific questions here... :-)
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Sound advice has already been provided. I would also suggest investing in a guide. You can learn more techniques and patterns in a day with a good guide than you could in a year hacking away on your own.

Join as Bass Club that holds tournaments year round like this one http//www.irvingbassclub.org
It would help if you joined with a partner or brought your own boat.We try to match non-boaters with a boater but you are dealing with personalities and nothing makes for a longest day like being 20 feet away from somone who doesn't want any conversation or idle chatter.Good luck with your search.

I never thought about fishing as a co-angler. i guess I thought If I couldn't carry my own weight then I would be pulling someone else down?

I joined Gainesville Bass club last year and fished 5-6 tournaments. I did really poorly when the weigh-in times came though :-( .
I'm hoping this year to be different. We are going to start pre-fishing the lakes hoping to get a leg up.
There are a lot of great fisherman in the club, but they are VERY tight lipped :-( .

I'll look in to a co-angler tourney for this year to throw my hat in to.
