Any help appreciated.

Scott, I use castaway and ugly stick for saltwater fishing. I have tried all star and other misc brands but I like the cast away the best. I fish for trout, reds, and flounder and need enough backbone to set the hook - especially the flounder!

Thanks guys.

Charles, does Bass Pro carry them? I looked at the Falcon rods on their website, but cant find the cara series. The ones they have are from 69-79 dollars. Does that sound like the right price?

Scott, Shimano rods are about the same as the G-Loomis rods but slightly cheaper (same blank). I have looked at some of the Shimanos but not very seriously. I already have 8 rigs in my boat and I can't use all of them in one day. My flippin rod is a 6'10" Castaway heavy worm rod. It has worked well although I have not hung into a monster with it yet. I have a shimano castaic reel on top of it with the flipping bar that makes it real nice to flip deep cover.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

The guy at Falcon said that he didnt think there was much difference in the Lowrider and the Cara. He actually reccommended the Lowrider.

Picou-I have Curados. they seem to work well also.

Scott,

The Cara is a little light and more sensative compared to the Lowrider. The Lowrider is a very good rod.

Either the Cara or Lowrider with your Curado is an excellent combination.

Ok I bought 2 rods from Falcon.

A 6'7" worm casting rod
A6'10" jig casting rod for flipping.

I cant wait to get them.

Charles and Picou, what do you guys use when the temp is around 40 degrees? crankbaits or what? How deep do you fish?

Jig with pork rind around creek channel with grass, rattle traps over grass beds, be sure to tick the top of the grass.

Where are you fishing?

Scott, when the water temp gets down to 40 degrees I go to the deer lease... :-)

I doubt that any of our lakes down here get that cold. Up there, you are going to want to find deep drop offs and pull your jig off the edge and let it fall. Water that cold will have the fish very slow so anything fast moving will be difficult to get bit on. You will want a slow presentation and a lot of bulk to fool the bass into thinking it is worth the effort they are going to put into it. Cold water bass are doing everything they can to conserve what energy they have.

Scott, I really hope you can make it down here for a Lake Fork trip. I am sure that one of us can get you out on the lake to chase some monster largemouths.

Mike, I fish Tablerock, Bull Shoals, Norfork, and Pomme De Terre. I like Pomme the best. Tablerock is getting a little busy.
