Corey fished her first bass tournament this weekend -- JC Outdoors Lake Fork Spring Trail Teams. She exceeded my expectations further that I could have imagined.

Over the years, Corey has fished with me in some very adverse conditions -- Lake Texoma in January, Lake Lavon in late December, Fork in February, etc... But never has she fished a team tournament with me until today.

Although we did not finish in the money it was a great time none the less. We started in our first spot and right off I boated 2 decent keepers on a wacky rigged bass bone in black/blue. We fished around in that area for a little while and then Corey got broken off on a drop shot. We moved to another spot and Corey boated our biggest keeper of the day 2.36 lbs on the bass bone. We messed around in this spot for entirely too long and ran around to a couple other spots filling out our limit with the drop shot but the last two fish were small. We made another move and I was able to get rid of my Sinkey fish with a 2 pounder. Shortly after I caught that one Corey connected with what she claims as her personal best -- I am sure she has caught bigger but who's to argue with a 10 yr old.

We decided to make the run in the wind with only an hour left and hit a spot that I hoped would have some bedded fish in it. After a fun boat ride we pulled into a spot that Charles and I call "Nine Pound Hole". I moved up to the reeds and started seeing fish everywhere. I flipped to a few that were not ready and then found a good keeper and proceeded to loose her at the boat. Long story short, 2 slot fish and 2 keepers later we had 7 minutes left to get the gear secured and get our chip turned in at the weigh in table. It was a mad dash back to weigh in and got the chip in with just over a minute to spare -- cutting it too close for my comfort...

Well, There were 37 teams fishing and the payout was only going to 7th place with 2 additional places getting BPS gift cards. We weighed in 9.25 lbs for the day and Corey is now inagurated into the trials of fishing a bass tournament. I think we ended up in 13th overall for the day. Corey fished almost the entire day and we both had a great time. It was a little stressful not being able to get to the water I wanted to fish but overall I am pleased with what we got.

Congrats to Eric Wright and Rob Feagan for a tremendous 12.3+ stringer of unders. I did not get to see that sack of fish but the weight speaks for itself -- way to go guys....
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Thanks everyone... I really enjoyed that day on the water with her. We really had a great time fishing together and once we got the poker chip turned in she looked at me and said -- "That was suspenseful..."

They are not ready for the Federation stuff. I have not allowed them to get proficient with the trolling motor because most of the time we are on Fork. Maybe in a couple of years tho...

Wes, I think everyone I have fished with this year has big fished me... :-) I'm good with that as long as we are catching fish... :-)

BH, Charles and I named that spot 9 pound hole because the first time he and I fished together he caught a 9.75 pounder there. We named several places on that lake with our own references -- mostly because neither of us knew the real name of the spot. We also have spots called "Do Nothing", "Duck Blind", "Little Bay", etc...

congrats on the finish. i was right behind you two at weigh in and she looked like she was a bit worn out (like everyone else after a day in that wind), but having a good time nonetheless...good to see people taking the kids out.

We enjoyed the visit as well. When we got in the truck and headed home I asked Corey what she thought about riding that Walker and her words were, "I liked it but mom is going to be mad at me for riding without wearing a helmet." :-) She avoided talking to Connie about it because she was afraid of getting in trouble. I told her that it would be me in trouble because I let her ride. She finally opened up to mom after that.

Mike you are blessed with an awesome family and two beautiful young ladies that love the outdoors and fishing. Corey looked like she had a great time and will no doubt be ready to head out on the next outdoor adventure. I love seeing those kidos out fishing and hunting. In our individual trail we allow the Jr. Anglers to fish against other Jr. Anglers its a one fish weigh-in. You may also take 2 Jr. Anglers out in the boat with you not just one. Kudos again for taking Corey out for this event and Congrats to Corey on her contribution to the limit and most of all the overall experience.
