OK - To anyone who knows - How long does it take to get from Sherman to the 377 bridge? Does anyone know of good lodging anywhere around the 377 bridge?

It's about a 25 minute drive from Sherman to the Juniper Point ramp which is next to the bridge. I was fishing this past weekend at Big Mineral Marina and I noticed they had some small cabins. Not sure what their rates are but it is only about 5 minutes from the ramp. There are also some other marinas in the area that might have some cabins. I know Cedar Bayou and Cedar Mills are close to the ramp. I'm just not sure what they have. You might also check Whitesboro, it is the closest town(10 min. to ramp). Hope this helps.

Sorry Dean, I said Big Creek but now that Texfisher has mentioned it I believe it was Big Mineral where we stayed that I was telling you about.

Here's a link to Cedar Bayou. You can see the bridge in the picture. They have cabins and a hotel according to their webpage.

Now this is going to be funny... Rob, the waves on Texoma can come pretty close to the waves on the coast with the right winds... Should make you feel right at home. I think we could scare up a sea gull or two also for audio and visual effects. Just don't throw crackers to them from my boat... :-)

Sweet... I went by my co-worker's office today and he said he will be there also unless the weather is just too crappy. He and Cecil (you know him Wes) will be in a boat together.

I guess I will be getting the batteries for my boat now and have her ready for that weekend. It will be nice to get it on the water again and hopefully get a line stretched. Even considering chasin some bronze backs if the striper fishing just really sucks.

Dean, right now it looks like I can take off Friday and fish with ya'll that day in your boat.

Greg, everything still a go for you?

Rob - Even that might be a little small for the norm?? I sure hope them there stripers can make an impression on us salt water anglers!!

So, Have we talked about what ramp we will launch from or is everyone going their own way? According to Ronnie, we will be fishing somewhere south? of the 377 bridge. We will probably be staying near Pottsboro in a cabin I found. I considered the "Front 30 Ranch" but it is a little more expensive than the cabin in Pottsboro (although probably worth it).

A few pics of my daughter with some nice fish.

That's pretty little Rob, I hope the fish will be better than that on Texoma... :-)

Not that there is anything wrong with that redfish, just that I think we will be using bait bigger than that...

Dean... great looking fish.. I anticipate the stripers being larger than that red. I hope we have a problem filling our limits because they are all over the max size... :-)

I'm missing out on all the good stuff!
http://www.sixoldgeezers.com/ad.htm
The slabs these guys make are what all the texoma guides are using, they sure work well! Also have a good assortment of topwaters, if you happen to find em on top up in a cove...its balls to the wall. And remember, big bait big fish! I had a ball out there last year, wish I could join you guys . Look for the old Falcon trihull guide boats and stay as close as you can to them, they all work together for the most part!

I will be there Friday as well but I may have to leave early due to my daughters birthday is that weekend. I'll try to make it to the lake next week and check on the fish. We had a lot of rain up here last week, so I'm curious to see how muddy the lake is. Hopefully the rain will stay out of here and the water will be half way clear by the 21st.

Great to hear that ya'll are gonna make it Audra & Keith... I too am looking forward to you showing us how to do it... :-)

The date is Jan 22nd Bigun... Ya'll just had a baby... You can't take a 5 week old on a 7 hour trip... Make the next one when it warms up. It would suck to make that trip and be stuck in the house the whole weekend -- my wife would kill me. Boy... the house would be packed though with Rob & Wes staying there also that weekend. We would be rolling blankets out on the floor in every room. :-) Wait till it is warmer so that the kids have a chance of riding horses while we fish. Then we can have a big cookout on Matt's back porch...

I just realized that is the last weekend of duck season anyway. I thought it was over this weekend coming. I have got to go hunt my blind once this season. Plus Picou my fingers type faster than my brain thinks. I was not going to bring the kids anyway. It is not a vacation with all the kids. Meant just entertain my wife. Maybe I'll make it to fish Fork during the spawn!!!

So what's the tackle (lures most specifically) selection?

I've got some lead heads with all kinds of wiggly stuff that tricks them in the salt. I bet it works in the fresh too?

Forgot to add.....I've got the bucktail and feather jigs too (2 - 3 oz). I bet I can find something they like at 20 - 30ft?

I am planning on Sassy Shad type baits in the chart & shad colors. Maybe a bucktail with a spinner. I will also have some slabs in the boat. Have a big topwater just in case we get some action where the water boils.

As far as rod, I will be casting a med/heavy 6.5 footer with a curado spooled with 15 lb big game. I have a few different rods that will suffice for this situation. Heck, I might just use my 5.5 foot ultra-light for this action just to keep it fair for everyone else... :-)

I know more about the largemouths on texoma than I do the stripers. Most of the reports I see that include artificials talk about using slabs, bucktail jigs and sassy shads. I think all 3 are fishing in similar ways. Find schools of fish and either swim or bounce the bait through until you find out how they want it. Most of my artificial stripers come on topwaters and jerk baits during warmer weather. During the cold months I net some shad and fish the easy way. Plus with shad you'll pull up a catfish every once in a while.
I see my rod is longer than yours.

We had excellent results on 10" sluggos behind Granbury D@mn in the spring and summer months. I don't know how they will work out in the open waters. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Things have changed a little again. My dad may not have to work. If not when and where are yall congregating. We may run up there for a Saturday on the water. If the weather is fittin. :-)

That's exactly what I thought and thanks a bunch!

My saltwater rigs are coming along for the ride. They work perfect in jigged deep water and I've got some other goodies that work just as well or better on top too. Old school spoon worked just like a crippled shad fluttered like no one's business.

Old salty can feel it....Wes fetch me another beer Boy! :-)
