many years ago my grandpa had passed on, i was 14. not having a dad around, i looked to him and learned a lot of things. the meaning of a handshake! keeping your word, hard work, hunting/fishing, gardening, being a man and providing for the family....much, much more. we spend countless hours playing dominoes and listening to him get aggravated that a punk kid would beat him:-) after he passed, his dominoes went to me. box still in decent condition that he had bought back in 1972. well, somewhere in the moves that i had made, they came up missing! have been looking for them for the past 5-6 years!!!! they have finally turned up:-) i set here tearing up as the memories come flooding back:-) isn't that funny that a little box of dominoes can do that to a fellow.... sure do miss him and granny....

I can certainly relate. It sonds like we had the same Grandpas!!!
My Pa-pa would come and pick me up every other Friday night. We would spend the weekends together fishing on his stock tanks, or working in his huge garden.Every time I put a fishing rod in my hands I think about him. Man I miss him. We will fish again!!!
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Glad you found it HB. My fishing trips with my grandfathers are some of my favorite memories.

Sometimes it saddens me because my daughters do not have a grandfather to spend time with. They do have grandmothers to spoil them rotten but nothing can take the place of being with paw-paw.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I never got to do those things my Grandpa was sick all my childhood...I never really knew him because he was alway in bed. He died when I was still small. I so glad you found them :-)

"Ricky ya gotta know where the fish are gonna be before they know where their goin." Pa almost killed me the first time I released a trout. He had to quit school in the sixth grade and hunted, fished and trapped to feed his 8 brothers and sisters. After I explained catch and release he just patted me on the head and gave me a nod -yep ya want your grandson to come here with you some day I get it. You make sure to tell him bout me when your here ok. The locals still call it Pa Baker's Hole.

my grandfather also took me fishing at stock ponds on his farm. every time we caught a fish he would spit in its mouth and then release it. said that the fish would remember you and bite your hook again in the future. i was about 4 at the time, but still do it to this day. only difference is the fish gets a little Copenhagen now.
