This weekend has been wrought with highs and lows since Friday... Friday started out Corey's softball game against Savoy which they won with a significant margin. They have played 6 games I believe and are undefeated so far despite the loss of a pitcher and starting catcher to broken arms. Saturday was a very dissapointing day to say the least. Jessica and I headed out to Fork to fish the JC Outdoors tournament and we left from the house so I woke up at 3:30AM and hooked up the boat. We were doing fine on time (so I thought), but the closer we got the the lake the lighter the skys became. We were apparently running late according to the sky. Turns out he was letting the first flight take off at 5:50AM and we did not launch until almost 6:00AM. No problem, take our time and get everything together. After idling around the docs I hammer down to take off and hear a loud pop from the motor followed by lots of clanging -- motor is toasted.... We go back to the doc and decide to just use the trolling motor to fish in the area around Minnow Bucket. About 1/2 way thru the morning the trolling motor is not responding to the button on the foot control. After tapping it several times it responds so I keep fishing. We moved a little further away from the ramp past the little island and the trolling motor repeats the same failure. I take off the switch and jump across the wires but it still does not come on. I knocked on the trolling motor head and it started working again so we headed across the cove by trolling motor. I attempted to fish that point and again the trolling motor would not respond to the switch and knocking on the head did not make it respond. This time a smacked the head and it started working again so I flipped the switch to continuous and started heading back towards the ramp. I basically left the trolling motor on the rest of the day adjusting between 1 & 5 depending on how fast I wanted to move. When I had a fish to mess with I would turn the trolling motor to the side and we would just sit in the same spot doing circles while I messed with the fish. By noon we had 5 fish in the livewell and had caught 1 slot fish. I use the term "WE" extremely loosly because Jessica lost two fish early and had put her rod down by 8:15AM and never fished again after that. Knowing that Mark gives $100 BPS gift card to the smallest sack I was reluctant to toss the little peanut I had in the box. I called Mark and asked if it was smallest limit, smallest fish, or what was it. He told me that he changes it up and he was not sure what it would be this time. Based on that information I culled that fish with the very next one that I caught and ended up culling one more time and caught a nice slot fish also. We put the boat on the trailer at 1:30PM and ordered a pizza from the Bass Lantern. We ended up weighing in 4.93 lbs. Mark informed me that he was awarding the gift cards to smallest limit and we were in line to win it until one of the last teams came in with 4.63 for a limit. I can't win for loosing these days... Oh well, we came home and got some much needed sleep. Sunday was beautiful and I was able to get a lot of things done around the house until we headed to the neighbors house for some baby back ribs and cold beer. Monday, the girls and I headed out with a group from our church to visit the VA hospital in Bonham where we gave every vet a small American flag and a picture of the youth in our church holding a big sign that said, "Thank You". We shook hands and expressed our appreciation. It was a great experience for the youth and adults combined. Well, just before 11:00AM Connie called me to inform me that her friend was taking her to the emergency room. They were going trail riding and at the trail head Connie was grooming her horse before saddling up. Something spooked the horse and when he whipped around it threw her several feet and she landed on her wrist in the rock parking lot. Turns out that she has a pretty severe break in the wrist and it will require surgery. Needless to say, it has been an eventful weekend and the fun has only begun here at the Picou household. We visited the orthopedic doc today and he is scheduling her for surgery tomorrow. The good times never end......... Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Sorry to hear about Connie's wrist. What a weekend. Bad news on the motor also. I hope you and Oz win the next one. Man, you need a break. Chuck and I had to do a similar thing with my trolling motor last tourney we fished. I had to use the on/off switch on the side to start and stop the trolling motor much of the day. I just replaced the switch in my foot peddle and the trolling motor quit again Monday. I was too lazy to go to the ramp and get the volt meter out of the truck so I just quit fishing and boated around with the wife. Got in one hour of fishing from 10-11 and that was it. They were biting pretty good Monday during that hour. Thanking the Lord, all day long --- tomc

Man, Sorry to hear that Mike. I had to put my boat in the shop today also due to engine problems. What really sucks is every time I take it in they say "it will be two weeks until we can look at it". To bad I don't know anything about marine engines I would start a real Service shop! Oh well hang in there Mike things will get better soon!!!! |

What a shame. Stuff happens to people that do cool stuff to enjoy their life. You'll get the motor fixed and I'm sure she'll get back on that horse after the hand heals. |

Zeeter, I hope you wife is doing ok after the wreck.... I hate to hear that bud! Thanks everyone, Connie is doing ok. Yesterday was a mixed bag of pain, discomfort, and sleeping. I think we have it under control and the arm elevated enough to minimize the swelling which keeps the pain lower. She does not do well on pain killers so we try not to take too much of that. 5mg of Vicodin seems to be her threshold for pain meds. She is still sleeping this morning so I should probably wake her up and make sure she is current on the meds. I hope to take the boat in this morning and drop it off at Plano Marine. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Reminds me of -- Twin brothers were named Joe and John, Joe was the owner of an old dilapidated boat. It happened that John's wife died the same day that Joe's boat sank. A few days later a kindly old lady met Joe on the street mistaking him for John, she said to him, "I'm sorry for your loss, you must feel terrible". Joe said, "Oh hell no, fact is I'm sort of glad to be rid of her. She was a rotten old thing from the beginning, her bottom was all shrivelled up and she smelled like dead fish. She was always losing water, had a bad crack in the back and a pretty big hole in the front which got bigger every time I used her. She leaked like crazy and it was difficult to keep her upright. But what really finished her off was when four tough guys rented her for a good time. I warned them that she wasn't any good, but they all wanted to have a go with her anyhow. The fools all tried to get on her at the same time and it was just too much for the old girl, while they were trying to get into their various positions she split up the middle". The old woman fainted. Be sure to keep your stories straight. I hope Connie heals up good and your Skeeter gets fixed soon. BassZone.com

What does this mean about the next few tourneys you have to fish? Do you need to borrow my boat? I can do everything through him who gives me strength. Phil 4:13

Looking at the calendar, I can skip this weekend's tournament in JCO, the next weekend is Media teams and we are fishing out of Ozzie's boat. The next weekend is Skeeter and if I do not have my boat back by then, Wes will tow his up here. The weekend after that is March of Dimes and I really hope my boat is done by then. I appreciate the offer Shaun. I am going to try and make the best of this time off the water and get some things done around the house. With Connie out from helping me tho I doubt I will get any work done on the barn. There are plenty other things that need attention though. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish
