I had the opportunity to spend some time in the boat with a very talented angler and guide on Lake Fork -- Lance Vick. Connie gave me a guide trip for my birthday and I have been waiting for the right time to take advantage of it.

Let me just say.... Of all the guide trips I have taken over the years I do believe that this was the most eventful and rewarding trip to date. I learned far more that I expected to and truly appreciate the time and effort that Lance put towards this short time on the water.

I quit counting fish in the first half hour. Lance taught me how to read the graph, which fish are catchable, and which fish are not worth the time. As soon as we graphed some fish that he thought would be catchable we went to work. I am pretty sure he had a fish on in the first couple of casts if not the first cast. It was not long after that I had one on also. Then we doubled the first time of at least 10 times. We had 5 consecutive casts on the dd22 that we doubled.

Here are some of the doubles and the average fish we caught.

double1,

double2,

double3,

Every time he graphed catchable fish we did exactly that -- caught fish. And never did we go more than 2 or three casts at a new spot without catching a fish. That is truly the way fishing should be.

We caught a bunch of slot fish and several limits of 15 - 16 inch chunks. Never put a scale to any of them but definately would not have had a problem with a limit of 5 going easy 10 pounds. Definately would have had 25 to 30 pounds on our best 5 overall.

It was an absolute blast and I cannot thank Lance enough for all that I learned. Also, I cannot thank my wife enough for making it possible.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Billy, it was a short half day trip -- my decision on the duration.

He will be one of the boats in the bug shoot-out saturday so who ever draws him has a pretty good shot at it...

We will be out Thursday and Friday honing those techniques I learned on the trip.

PQ thats awesome, never really appreciated how time consuming and difficult it can be trying to get better at "fishing deep" on your own. Had it pretty easy as a kid growing up on the Great Lakes with my grandfather and uncles pretty much teaching me everything they knew from years of being on the water. Sure looks like taking a trip with Lance would shorten the learning curve quite a bit.

Words of wisdom Rick, you might want to ck. Lance out for a deep water trip SOON..

Go ahead PQ burn your spots up Thursday and Friday LOL..

Come Saturday .... I don't know what happened ??? We caught the fire out of them Thursday AND Friday..

C-U at the weigh-in, I hope...

I was in the Bug Shoot out last year, I won the 12-1:00 hour. I'll defer to second place to take my spot this year "IF" I do it again... Man, that was a beating. I didn't get to eat-or get home until 8:40 pm that evening.. Wore Out, is an understatement.

"Vick is a stud on Fork for sure"

Dang sure is, and he's one of the good guys on Fork.
I know where he get's it, his dad Larry
is one awesome fisherman too. I was impressed when he beat Me and Maxwell in a TFF Match Play event by 8+ lbs.. OUCH... Ker-Spank.

When the wife offers, I'd be a fool to refuse it. :-)

You see Yank, she cannot figure out what to buy me for birthdays, Christmas, father's day... It is easy for her to just give me a guide trip. Who am I to tell her I shouldn't do it. It would be like that year she gave me a watch for Christmas and after opening it I looked down and commented, "Huh... Ok... Not what I was thinking when I said I wanted a watch, but... thanks hun..." She cried for a good half hour right there and then for several days she would tear up just thinking about it.

So you see yank... I am not doing it for me. I am doing it for my wife...
