Ok guys I sent back my LMS 520C that craped out and died on me. It was still under warranty so I got the RMA number from them and shipped off the unit. it's been over 6 weeks ago since I shipped it back and stated to get concerned So I went checking online to see what the status is and its showing "waiting on customer return" I should have shipped it with a tracking number but I didn't. So I sent an email last week asking if they received it and so far no response...Well, I kept digging online and they have answers to questions section that say "repairs or replacement of under warranty is up to 6 months"...YES YOU HEARD RIGHT 6 MONTHS!! Are you freaking kidding me...I've been with out a depth finder for three months now and it killing me...I knew I shouldn't have sold my old LMS 480!! Now that I'm fishing deep on Fork my 7ft rod won't reach the bottom...I need that baby back...If it takes 6 month to get this unit back I'll be purchasing a Hummingbird I can tell you that...I'll also have a "repaired or replaced" LMS 520C for sale!! Oz Dru has a contact at Lowrance that he sent me when I had problems with my 480. If you search back through the archives for lowrance you should be able to find it. Let me know if you need to borrow my 480 till you get yours back. |

OZZ Linda Colt is the name everyone says you should contact at lowrance. Was looking at the new HDs but all ya here is complaints similar to yours leaning toward a hummer to. |

If I can find Linda's number/email I will get it to you Oz. But..... I seem to remember that she is no longer in customer service. She was definately one of those who "got it done" for Lowrance customers. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I was days from purchasing an HDS-8. I am now on hold until further notice. I have read "at other online places" many Lowrance complaints and the answer to the question - Why so many more complaints than with Eagle, H-bird, Garmin, etc? - is - There are more Lowrance units in the field than all those others put together. Now I do not know what to do. When I was told the HD units will have side imaging transducers available after the first of the year I was sold, but now I am really reconsidering going a different direction. If I am going to spend $1,500 - $2,000 for a piece of equipment I am going to want, no EXPECT, something more in return than "Thank you for your patience."!!!!! Chuck GIG'EM AGGIES

Chuck, I can say without hesitation that Linda Colt is the best at what she does, but she can't control everything. Lowrance has undergone some changes in the last few years that hurt their reputation along with their bottom line. The 520c had a problem with the seal and would get water into the main unit and quit working. We had to send one back and Vince has gone three so far this year. They have since fixed the problem but I would bet they are still dealing with the ramifications. As long as Linda is at Lowrance, I would fell comfortable running their units. They have superior products but their BassZone.com

Ok, here's the scoop she was able to get me some information and here it is: Thank you for your inquiry. We do apologize for the delay in responding. Your unit does need to be replaced. Unfortunately, the replacement units are currently on back order. As soon as these units do come in, we will ship your replacement to you. As a result, as soon as your unit ships, you will automatically receive an e-mail with the tracking information. We do apologize for any inconvenience this situation has caused you. As you can see I still have no idea when this unit will be replaced...I may need to look at a used 480 until this one is returned... Oz, I put a 480 on the bow when the 520c went out. It worked fine with the existing connections. It was not as clear but you could still see the bottom structure. BassZone.com

Pardon my butting in but Garmin has a some new stuff that on paper, out performs Lowrance. Unfortunately Garmin is very slow to respond to customer problems also.I have never used a newer Hummingbird product but some people wouldn't own anything else.It is sad but these days you take a gamble everytime you buy a piece of high tech gear. |

I'll seel you my 520, I want the new HD unit, hear the sidefinder add on is better the then bird and the transducer mounts directly to the hull/transum. |

My 997SI is on it's second season, no problems. It can sure spot which end of the bridge pillars have structure and which ones don't. Amazing piece of equipment, the more I use it the better I like it. I have ALWAYS been a dyed in the wool die hard Lowrance owner/supporter. When they quit working on the monochrome units with less than 3-yrs of buying it, I was totally discussed with them. Basically they were forcing me to buy a new unit by refusing to repair the one I had. It was a great unit X15, the only thing I needed fixed was the light. I needed it for running the boat lanes at night or early in the morning on Fork. I suspect they will cease repairs on all non-hd units in the very near future. Just like they did on my old unit. That way, it generates new revenue on a regular basis. About every 3-years we have to drop a bundle. Bye-Bye Lowrance... never again. KBD Fishing

Thanks. Been holding off cause heard alot of bad stuff about the new HDs so was gonna buy the 527C marked down after the HDs came out. Was concerned about service so I called to ask how long they would service them and no one could or would give me an answer. Its the bird. |

Chuck, I cannot argue with you logic. It is fundamentally wrong that Linda appears to be the only person at Lowrance that gives a crap about the customer. To be honest, I cannot believe she is still there and cleaning up Lowrance's mess. As far as I am concerned, she is single handed saving the company.
