This is a little story from an email I received from our youth director at church. Take it for what you paid for it and use it however you see fit.

If you've ever felt like a total waste of oxygen, completely useless because of your flaws and shortcomings, here's a story for you.

A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on the end of a pole, which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master's house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water to his master's house. The perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, having successfully hauled the full amount of water it was intended to carry on every trip from the stream. The poor cracked pot, on the other hand, was ashamed of its imperfection and miserable about the fact that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it considered to be bitter failure, the cracked pot spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself and want to apologize to you," the pot said. "For the past two years I have been able to deliver only half of my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master's house. Because of my flaw, you don't get the full value of your efforts."

The water bearer smiled compassionately at the imperfect pot. "As we return to my master's house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path." As they went up the hill, the cracked pot saw beautiful wild flowers lining the entire length of the path and, for a moment, it was cheered. But when they arrived at the master's house, the pot realized that half of its water had leaked out again. Discouraged, the pot apologized to the water bearer again.

"Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path?" the water bearer asked. "That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my master's table. If you were not just as you are, my master would not have this beauty to grace his house."

Each of us has our own unique flaws. We are all cracked pots. But if we will allow it, the Lord will use our flaws to grace our heavenly Father's table. In God's system, nothing ever goes to waste.

Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish
