I fished the 2nd JC Outdoors Lake Fork Individual this past Sunday attempting to build on my win of the 1st event and maintain my AOY points lead. Since Jessica fished with me last tournament it was Corey's turn to fish as JR Angler from the back of the boat. It was a chilly 51 degrees at take off and the misty rain and east wind made it feel even colder just coming off of summer but Corey was tuff and fished hard. I had my limit before 10 but she had not landed a fish yet and was feeling pretty bad about her performance. I had just jumped off 2 small keepers on the Bass Bone so I put her on a finess worm rigged wacky and pulled up to the reeds. I had her get on the front of the boat with me and told her it was her turn to put a keeper in the boat. As I pointed out likely spots, she would cast to them and on her 5th cast she lost a little keeper half way back to the boat which got her fired up. She worked on her flipping while attempting to hit the specific spots I pointed out and kept at it while we moved down the shoreline further. It wasn't too much longer she set the hook and boated a 6 oz keeper -- she's on the board... We knew she was the only JR competing and that fish was enough for the win but that did not stop her from fishing. We moved out to the outside grass line and I put on a black/blue Grande Bass Rattlesnake on her line and she started upgrading her keeper. The first fish she hooked on the Rattlesnake was a big fish and it broke her off unfortunately. She ended up boating 5 keepers on Sunday with her biggest weighing 1.37 pounds for the win. Even though she already had the win wrapped up with the first fish, she never quit trying. I'm very proud of her and I can't wait to spend more time on the water with both of my girls. They have come so far and each trip they seem to learn more and more. The last tournament with Jessica was awesome and this one with Corey was equally special. The more tournaments I fish with these girls, the more I enjoy it. Coming into weigh-in with her fish: Her winning fish: The reward for her efforts: As for me, I ended up in 5th place for the tournament and maintained my points lead for AOY. Hopefully the girls and I can continue to be successful in this trail but no matter what happens, these days on the water with my daughters are days I will never forget and cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you God for my girls and for the time I get to spend with them doing something we love. I do wish I would have taken some pictures of Jessica's fish when she won the last one but we were the last ones to weigh in and the clock was ticking. Here is a picture courtesy of JC Outdoors of her & her first wood. She also got a $50 gift card to Froggy's which I ended up buying from her.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish
