I'm an Ohio'n coming to the Dallas area (Saginaw to be exact) for the christmas holiday. I'm bringing my fishing gear with me. My favorite lures to fish with are jig heads ... like roadrunners, underspins, etc. Will not be doing boat fishing, only fishing from shore. Looking to catch anything that swims. Tips and hints anyone for Texas december fishing? Rusty Nitsch S.E. ohio rvnitsch@localnet.com |

Welcome to The Ramp Ohio_Rusty. Hopefully we can get you pointed in the right direction and your holiday trip is full of fishing success. I do not live on that side of the metro-mess so I can not help any more than this info below. You can try your luck at one of the places they stock trout -- look at Tarrant County stuff for the real close things. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/management/stocking/trout_stocking.phtml?s=o Or there is this Urban Fishing thing that TPWD promotes. This one is for the DFW area: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/management/stocking/urban/dfw_map.phtml Lastly, this is a link to the fish stockings for rivers, small lakes, and ponds throughout the state. You'll need to look at maps.yahoo.com and find the water body you are interested in and see if it is on the stocking report to give you an idea of what fish are in there. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/management/stocking/fishstock_smallwater.phtml Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Thanks for the great information !! Looking forward to perusing the links. I will probably try doing the jerk bait thing ... probably with berkley gulp minnows (3 and 4 inch) and lightly weighted hooks to slow the sink rate and retrieve. I would think suspending rapala's (small huskey jerks)and shad raps would be productive. I'm trying to think s-l-o-w depending on water temperature and weather. I think I have other suspending stickbaits like thunderstick jr's. Fishing in december here means drilling a hole thru 6 inches of ice. I am looking forward to trying out Texas lakes and ponds !! Thanks RedS for the marine Creek Resv. info. I was planning on heading there first. I'm used to fishing reserviors, just different species. Thanks again all ..... I appreciate the info ... If ya want to take a little ride (about 1 1/2 hour) go to Dennison fish the spillway out of Texoma below the dam. Anything that looks like a shad works. When the gates are open its like the dinner bell they stack up close to the dam like cord wood. Locals throw spooks and pencil poppers (chrome black, white) on top, sassy shads, spoons and the stuff you mentioned should work fine. |
