I remember when we did the sonagram for Corey and the nurse told us it was a girl. When she walked out of the room Connie started crying and apologizing to me. She was afraid that I was dissapointed that it was a girl and I told her without hesitation that there wasn't anything I couldn't take these girls to do that I could have taken a son to do.

Well, for years now the girls have been hunting and fishing with me. Jessica was 3 years old when she went on her first duck hunting trip with me. They have sat patiently in the blind while I bow hunted for many years and witnessed several arrows passing thru the vitals of whitetail and turkeys. In 2007 Jessica harvested her first deer then in 2008 Corey joined us and got her first harvest -- 2 actually.

Last year Corey really got into the tournament fishing and was my partner for a series and fished hard all year. We qualified for the Championship and missed a check by less than the perch that was spit up in the livewell. She even endured a 22 degree start as a Jr angler during one of the individuals. Jessica also fished a couple of tournaments with me in 2009. She too fished hard and had a great time. Our luck was not nearly as good when Jessica was in the boat, she was with me when the lower unit blew out, but she kept her spirits up and never complainted. My girls brought home 4 plaques in 2009 and we definately experienced some successes over the course of the season. They wake up at rediculiously early hours to drive to the lake or go crawl into a ground blind and never complain.

Well, as if the 2009 tournament season was not good enough, the 2009/2010 deer season has been a very special season for me and my girls. I made the decision to let my girls shoot my lease allotment for the year so every trip I made to the lease included one of them.

You may remember that Corey started us off in November with a doe:

I did get to take a deer after her doe because Corey wanted her next deer to be a buck and I wanted meat in the freezer.

A couple weekends later Jessica put another doe on the ground for the family freezer:

Alternating back-n-forth on who went to the lease with me, luck would be on Jessica's side that this great cull buck stepped out on New Year's Morning and she put a great shot on him.

She followed the blood trail to her buck and I cannot express how happy she was with her harvest. She had also received a new Browning hunting knife for Christmas and for the first time she got to get her hands bloody.

Topping off the season was when Corey hammered her first forked horn buck the Saturday morning of the last weekend of season. She had passed on several deer like this one over the season so when she asked if she could shoot it I gave the ok.

She too put a great shot on her buck and he dropped within 10 yards of the shot. She complained about not getting a knife so she borrowed one of mine to prove to me that she too is capable of helping skin & quarter a deer.

These girls have been an absolute blessing in my life. It means the world to me that they enjoy the outdoors like I do and want to endure all the conditions to participate. Not a penny I have spent on their outdoor recreation has been wasted in my opinion and I will continue to enjoy the great outdoors with them for as long as the Lord will allow me to. I look forward to the days when they are backing the boat into the water and unloading while I sit back and relax but until then I will take every moment on the water and in the woods that I can get catering to them. I love my daughters and I truly enjoy our times out.

Dear God, thank you for the blessings of Corey and Jessica in my life. Thank you for the opportunity to share the joys of being outdoors with them and thank you for the successes they have experienced.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Great job to the PQ girls. I know they can not clean a deer any slower than their dad that is for sure! :-)

That's as good of a season as it gets. That's why I need to get back on a season lease. I need to follow your lead and get my kids in the outdoors more often.
