Thanks guys I appreciate it. Fishing was tough with only 5 bites in two days. 3 keepers 1 rat 1 missed on a brush hog that cost me. My pros were just not on fish. Some guys wrecked em' Rayburn in two weeks I will try to do better. |

Tommy I learned that batteries need to be not only 100% charged but need to be new to hold a boat more than 30 minutes in 25 to 30 mph winds. My first day guy was on fish, it was a place Eric and I prefished on Wednesday and they were chasing shad. When we pulled into the backwaters there were 3 boats wacking them, it freaked my boater out and he pulled out for over an hour and tried another spot. NADA When we went back into the backwaters there were 3 boats still wacking them. It was a spawning flat that ran from 3' to 10' surrounding by grass. I asked him when he was going to go in there and get his piece of the bass lottery and he finally did. I went to 1/4 oz Rapala lipless bait in a chrome/shad color. I picked up 2 keepers and rat as the wind was building. His batteries could not hold us so we had to pull out to conserve battery power. If he had power poles or a heck of an anchor we could have slayed them while that front was moving in. Day two I learned that with Power Poles you can flat slow down and pick a spot apart. That did not work in my favor at all as the fish I was going for had seen numerous bait presentations and had a set of power poles and a boat sitting on them before I would be able to cast out the back of the boat and get a chance. I also learned that I do not want a seat on the bakc deck. Cody brought me one on day two and late in the hunt I sat down for a few minutes and that is when I missed my bite for a check. I think if I had been standing and ready I could have felt that bite and not just the head shake and could have reacted a lot faster. Good times and a learning experience everytime in the boat. Also we had an 1 1/2 hour fog delay on day 1 and by the time they let us go I had butterflies in my stomach with anticipation. A feeling I have not felt in a while at a tournament. |

That had to have been sucky, ouch.

Your kidding me.. The guy was fishing a big event and he crummy batteries.. And no anchor !! What a dip... Those two things have saved the day numerous times for us in competition.. I always have a snatch&grab pole(no dumb comments please) a stump halo of my design, and--- an anchor. We also invest in top of the line technology when it comes to batteries, the AGM. Style is head and shoulders above ANY thing else on the market for maximum power reserve and staying power all day long in high winds. I just can't believe these guys will scrimp on the vital-must have stuff.. Oh, I bet they had nice electronics and rod/reel setups. Too bad they didn't get enough time to use them.. LOL.. Unbelieveable.. I would have been P.O.'d KBD Fishing

Thats why I am fishing co for two years. I want to learn on their dime so to speak. Yea $400 bucks is a big entry for a co but not as bad as the boater entry, I will be forking out a grand an event when I go boater and I do not want some minor detail to knock me and my co out of the competition. Power Pole was used against me in this event so to speak but I can now see it as a valuable tool. Before I thought they were for those anglers just looking to impress. Also my first day boater had a 21' Triton. That water got big going to weigh in and this was the first time I had been on big water in a Triton. We ran south with the wind all the way to weigh in and only took a couple of wave baths. Lots of guys were coming in looking like they had been swimming. I was expecting to get pile drived off of those waves and I can honestly say that the Triton hull was the smoothest I have ever experienced when coming down on a big wave, it was like landing on a pillow top mattress. Seriously! It freaked me out. |
