Took the girls out the the Bonham lease to shoot the .22 rifle and brought the fishing poles along with us. I was trying to teach my 6 yr old how to fish a spinner bait and keep it off the bottom since she already lost 1 of my H&H spinners. I cast it out and reel it in real fast to keep it off the grass. I made 2 casts trying to get her to pay attention when BAM!!!!!! Of course, even though it was me who hooked and brought the fish in, according to her she caught it since it was on her pole.... Who am I to argue... :-)

I ended up catching this little one and 2 others on splitshot fluke jr.s. I also lost a few fish on the fluke so I definately needed the tune up.

I can't wait for the striper trip...

looking good. I'm also trying to get my 6 year old girl to take up fishing. Took her last year to Bonham lake. Went to a spot where I new the bites would be one after another and she still got bored after about 6 crappie. Gave her the coloring book and took over. Thinking about taking my boy this summer. He will be 3 in May. If I take him though I will have to hide everything that can be thrown overboard. The kid loves to throw things.
I see my rod is longer than yours.

I agree with both of you Bryan and BB... :-)

I know that feeling Tex, when mine got bored I would either toss a fish in the livewell for them to play with or they would revert to the coloring book or snacks. I also understand about the throwing stuff... Kids think it is sooooooo neat to watch things go "SPLASH".... :-)

Rob, no lucky shirt needed buddy... You don't stand a chance. I was going to be a nice host and let you catch all the fish but I guess I will have to show an OLD salt how it is done...

Thanks everyone...

Great pic. And being a daddy's girl who's always loved the outdoors...I'd have to agree...she caught the fish! :-)

Too funny... this is going to be a fun year and I plan on having the kids on the boat with me a lot. I am trying to move away from the cork & jig and give them something more conducive to casting and catching a few fish on. At least with the spinnerbait constantly moving they stand half a chance of getting the hook set.

One thing that will have to happen is a casting class for them. They can humm that spinner bait out there, but they have no clue where it is going. I need to get them away from using the whole body to make the cast and just using the arms/wrist. I really need a left handed reel for this little one also. She is a south paw and I feel like I am making it harder on her out of the gates.

Oh yea... We had been fishing for about a half hour or so and I had caught 2 fish. They started complaining about it being too hard and I responded emphasizing that I had already caught 2 fish. My oldest exclaimed, "Yea... but we are not a pro fisherman like you are..." :-) ...I love my kids
