Do any of you guys use either one of these Lowrance products? I'm thinking about geting new units seeing that my 522c is leaking on the screen...

I use the HDS10 and the HDS7 with Structure Scan and absolutely love them, its almost cheating! I have never had any problems out of either unit or Lowrance support in fact Lowrance support helped me out big time on a special project I was working on! Highly recommend!

We are playing with an HDS8 and another unit on front that is just down scan...also have the sonic hub. It's pretty cool Oz..but highly recommend getting instructional dvd. Keep in mind that Iceman is a lowrance dealer and is a wiz at decoding the mysteries..............

For example we were scanning over by the minnow bucket and kept seeing an unusual looking brush pile...upon examination we realized that we were looking at a pile of you guys measuring boards from last years Media Superteams.....blahaahahaahaaaaaaa

I can hear Max saying that like it was yesterday, funny stuff.

I really have no experience with the Hummingbirds but I am sure they are great units as well. I just know the Lowrance and support have never been a problem for me.

A lot of people have them now so just hook up with someone that has one and go out for a ride with them so you can see it first hand.

I think I like the idea of SS on the console and down scan on the bow...Maybe a HDS10 and the HDS8 on the trolling motor...

I have been considering the down scan but in reality I just do not fish deep enough to need one.... I can see the bottom already!!!!
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

That is great combo, with the 8 and 10 everything is the same, all buttons and functionality. The 7 like I have does not have the row of buttons on the bottom and is a little more cumbersome to operate.

With the 10 and 8 networked you can see the SS on either unit, the only problem when you are on the trolling motor and looking at SS the transducer is in the rear of the boat instead of directly under the trolling motor.

It takes some adjusting and time on the water with either make... I like both. Once you got a feel for it, and understand exactly what your seeing you'll feel the money was worth it..

However, if I had it to do again, I wouldn't spend so much money on sonar..

I got the 1198 a few weeks before I put my boat up for sale. Played with it about 4 times on Lewisville, and noticed I would not even run my normal sonar, but used the downscan the whole time. Much more detailed.

Kewl stuff --HUH OZ..

No offense Terry... I have several friends with the Low 8's and 10's... Trouble--nothing but trouble.. The hubs go out, they leak etc... Great units for clearity, none better IMO.. They need to work the bugs out though...Quickly

I don't like there non-support of units they discontinue, primarily--- if not the sole reason I switched to the Bird.. They hissed me off, I don't want any company telling me I have to buy a new unit every 3-5 years because the won't fix it any longer... that was Chicken Poop..

Redskeeter - no worries, I completely understand.

Lowrance has never been anything but good to me and I have not had one issue ever with my units so I can't do anything except speak of my personal experiences. HB's are a great choice too from what I have been gathering but I have had other people that are HB owners that have been with me and told me the same thing about the Lowrance clarity vs HB with the structure scan.

Who knows I think it also has a lot to do with getting them dialed in and set to your preferences.
