Just checked the extended forcast. They are calling for highs in the mid to upper 60s. I believe the lows were in the mid 40s. No rain for now but we know how that can change. Poles are rigges and ready to go. Just waiting on the work week to end.

Hey,

Can I get my "Texoma permit" ahead of time at wally world or is it just available locally at the lake?

That is all i need in addition to my TX fishing license, correct?

Unless something happens at my dads work between now and Wednesday we are planning on coming up Saturday. I think we are going to put in at E on the map. The ramp right at hwy377. Anything we need to know about this spot before hand?
What kind of permits do we need to fish? I see yall talking about a Texoma permit. Is that just for the boat? I guess we also need to buy an OK fishing license?

The texoma permit is actually a texoma fishing license that allows you to fish anywhere on the lake. I priced one the other day when I was buying my oklahoma license and it was $12 or $12.50. For comparison an out of state oklahoma license cost me $42, so it saves you $30. You will probably only be able to buy one around the lake. I'm not sure about the ramp your using since I rarely go to that part of the lake. I'm planning on getting there at least a half hour early and going to cedar bayou marina to try and catch a few shad before heading out. It shouldn't be a long run from the ramp to find fish. They will usually be close to the river channel.

Hey Big p, I'm not fishing with you guys but I know Texfisher is. You don't need an oklahoma fishing license if you buy the texoma license. It will be cheaper. The texoma license lets you fish the whole lake.

Thanks. I know in High School we had a FFA convention at Lake Murry. We could buy an out of state 3 day fishing license real cheap. I don't guess they do that anymore? Good to know the Texoma permit will cover us.

Charles, I plan on staying at the lake till at least 4:00pm. if the stripers are suckin wind, we are going bass fishing.... :-) Call my cell phone or use the motorola to locate us. I would assume that if we are bass fishing we will be in the upper part of the river trying to find warmer water. I know a couple coves over around Big Mineral that should be decent for bass fishing this time of the year in the afternoons.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

FYI, I talked to a buddy today who was fishing in ceder bayou marina sunday. He said the water was so muddy you couldn't see 3 inches down. I also saw that the flood gates were open Saturday which will pull the mudline down the lake. I've always heard the stripers will stay just ahead of the mudline. So we might have to do some running to find some clear water and fish. We may have to run towards the islands or into the big mineral arm to find clearer water. Bait might also be harder to catch, so have some artificials ready to go.

Dang... I shoulda bought yellow bucktails today...

I made a run to Barlow's and got a rod fixed and picked up some sassy shads & bucktails. I won't be doing a whole lot of live bait fishing unless the two snoopy rod guys in the boat insist. I am thinking that I should fill the boat up with gas huh... That is a long run around that lake from anywhere you launch.

Hopefully we can find some good water to fish and put a few stripers in the box. Worst case, we will make room for them in the ice chest no matter if we catch one or not... :-)

I am still planning on making it to the lake on Friday, just not sure if it will be first light or not. What methods of communication will those attending be using? I think my wife is going to make me take the kids to school that morning so I will not be at the lake till 9:00am.

Bring whatever you want Rob, but you are only allowed 6 items in the boat... Including your beer... :-) BTW: What beer do you drink?

I have tons of crappie baits if you have to pole for crappie. I say tons, I have the ones that seem to work most consistently...

Rob, you are welcome to use any of my fishing rods that I am not using at the time you request one. :-) I also have enough striper tackle to at least let us baot 4 or 5 each if not more. If we run out, we can always make a run back to the doc and buy some more. Since this is a far cry from what ya'll usually do, don't go overboard on tackle. Ya'll are more than welcome to use my stuff.

I'll bring 2 rods (baitcast & ultra light crappy) and a small container with a few leadhead jigs and plastic jig tails that worked on the East Coast for Salt Water Stripers. Nothing major, pretty light weight and it will give those stripers possibly a different look than what the locals use.

Wes sez he's bringing 2 rods.

I'll drink any old beer (cold) and Miller Light or Coors Light will work.

I forgot to add......

I'll bring a big bag of Cheetos. Toss them at the opposite side of the lake where we are catching fish. That ought to get the birds attention. Poor bird chasing boats will have their hands absolutely full. :-)

Creative!! Never thought of that! I'll have to try it some time!

We plan to fish with live bait. Ronnie wants to hit the water early and sein for ghost minnows and then throw the cast net for shad. I'd prefer artificial as well but he's playin captain!

Does anyone have VHF on their boat? What channel should I be on?

Maybe we'll get to make the next one! I sure hope we plan another trip very soon..hint, hint!!

Why aren't we out there today? This crazy weather continues. Luckily the warmer weather hit on my days off this week. I may have a guy from my bass club come out Saturday. He's doesn't get off work until early Sat. morning so I still have an open spot on Friday if needed.

Just giving ya a hard time Mike.

Latest update: It looks like I'm not going to be able to make it Saturday. I'm trying to re-scheduled appointments to be able to make it on Friday. The ones that will be on the lake Friday can you either email (cameen@dvti.net) me your cell number or post it here so I can find you on the lake.

LMAO....... That is just plain funny right there Rob...

I have a 6 pack of 20 oz cokes in the fridge for Wes. Rob, not sure what beverage you drink in the morning but I assumed Diet Coke was it... :-) I'll make some coffee when we wake up Saturday & Sunday.

Just got a status report from Dean & Ronnie and they are on the lake and got plenty of bait in 1 cast. He missed a fish while we were talking so he made me get of the phone... :-) They had just dropped the trolling motor when I called him and I am expecting to get some more details after the sun sets.

Looks like we will have 4 boats out there tomorrow and hopefully some fish to show for it. If anyone wants to ride with me they are welcome to tomorrow but I need to leave the lake a little early to get back to the house for Wes & Rob's arrival. I will not make it to the lake till probably 9:30 or 10 in the morning and I am launching at 377. Call my cell if you need to catch me 214-738-4508

Here's my take on day 1. Mike is the man. Not only is he a professor of largemouths, it turns out he's not bad with the stripers either. Here's a pick of his biggest along with a few others I was able to get between hook sets. Take note of the lunker I caught. He was to big to get all of him in the picture so I just took a pic of the scale. enjoy.

It took us a while to locate fish and each other. They were on the fish when I left, so I'm not sure how many they ended up with. I know when I left Mike had caught a 13 and a 10. There were probably another 8 caught around 20 inches long. I'm sure they caught plenty more after I left. Can't wait to see what they ended up with. Hopefully the weather won't be to brutal on us tomorrow and we can locate the fish again.
