I'm sad to report that my 2005 225 Mercury Optimax passed away on old mother Fork on Sunday at 10:50am. She died doing what she loved best hauling my sorry butt around the lake trying to catch green fish. Although she's had plenty of lower units over the year she only had one other power head as the first one had a very short life of only 1 year. I do plan on resurrecting her yet again with a rebuilt power head in the coming week. There will be no services however donation may be made to “Ozzie’s New Power Head Fund” and I’ll make sure to put it to good use…

Dam the luck..... Dude my old hammer is 10+ yrs old and still haul'n azz... If she bite's the dust, as they all do sooner or later, I'll have it rebuilt and sell it... Or just scrap it out and repower with a Yammy Sho.... Those engines are freak'n awesome, they about have all the issues fixed going forward.
I believe the 4-stroke is the way to go if one has to repower, I don't believe I'd waste the money on a multi blown 2-stroke..

Pickle ask Chuck how many hours a Mercury 225 Optimax should last for a tournament guy? I had 728 hrs but the first 100 was on the first power head.

To many variables Oz. Modern fuel quality sux and is a HUGE issue these days. It is very important to warm your motor up properly before you take off. Bass boats typically are a horrible application for outboards because of the constant stop and go aspect of bass fishing. This is very hard on your engine. This has been a big problem with the SHO as a four stroke must be able to heat up to the proper temp in order to seal the rings properly.

People tend to think their bass boats are like their car and can be treated the same...This attitude keeps ole Iceman in business. As far as hours go, I know people on the coast that get thousands of hours on that same motor...No starting and stopping all the time.

Oh by the way...I did not ask Chuck for you...this would be beneath me. The Pickle knows all....HaHa.

Number one killer of engines on Fork is the pesky little Dirt dobber...Chucks favorite bug. Their neet little dirt nest does not injest well.

I should have never insulted you by bringing the Iceman into this! What on earth was I thinking...

Derek, you need to add 2k more to that estimate so I'll need a few more cocktails added to the fund! Its should be ready Friday. I'll be breaking it in Saturday on Fork.
