I drove out to weigh in for an estrogen break. Was not a lot of folks coming to the scales. I think Eric fished another tourney somewhere else. Did not see Zach there though Mike weighed in. The Pick was there and was looking forward to getting back in the action next week. Seemed like most of the regulars picked up some cash.
Entries were down. I thought they would draw a bunch with the gas prices being down, but that didn’t happen.
Champs sure has been drawing some crowds at most of their events

Solid unders are hard to come by right now....I ain't making it up. It is and has been a slot fish haven for me the last few weeks. I have fished every creek bend in 10-30' of water on the east side of the lake from 154 going north. I fished the bridges hard as well. They aren't in their usual haunts for me. I gave up on pre-fishing for Champs and went to Athens to fun fish.

Wish I could fish champs this year but Jessica has a softball tournament in Allen. Maybe the weather will be terrible and it will get rescheduled... :-)
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

We miss you PQ..

I've seen feast and famine on Fork...1999-2000 it was a dead sea.. Yeah we'd catch a few fish, honestly more than these days for unders..

"I don't know"-"what do I know"-not much as a biologist.
But common sense and my own gut felling being a sportsman all my life tells me the drought, and lack of grass that affords fingerlings a place to hide, and consider the serious perdation from Sandbass in the shallows has FINALLY shown a lasting effect on our younger fish.

We're talking 4-yrs here of drought, yes we've had grass in a small portion of the lake--man-- it was everywhere in the haydays-wasn't it...

Yes, yes it was, not anymore. I live and breath lake Fork, and have been since I watched it fill starting the very first day it began...

Right now -- something is wrong. We all know it, and it's not the pump station,it started long before Dallas started pulling water...

These things move in cycles imo.., God knows I pray for it to resume to what was.. I could careless about tournaments at this point, I just want her to return to what was just a few yrs ago...
Am I off track here, what do you think, I would love to know...

I agree with the predation theory....I actually typed it out in my earlier response but deleted for the sake of harassment. Lol

I made one trip to Fork last year in late March and had a great day catching fish. I would have never guessed that it was that bad -- but then again it was only one day. The interesting thing is that I fished more like I did 20 years ago instead of the new stuff I have learned over the last 10 years.

I agree that the sandbass have made an impact. They are prolific and dominant.

I will get the boat out of the garage soon or at least come beg a spot in one of your boats. I have not been out in a while and I need a fix...

I think you hot the nail on the head Billy! The lack of water have fish in places they haven't been in the last 10 years! They are usually in the creek channels stacked on the bends or in deep holes in the major spawning creeks! There are no deep holes now and the water is so skinny in some of the bigger creeks when you put 5 boats in there it's hard to move around!

I think the sandbags are gorging on the fingerlings! If you don't think so throw an a rig or squarebill and see how many striped fish you catch!

It's gonna be interesting this year for unders based on what I seen so far this year!

We need water bad

I first remember mentioning the deal with the unders about 4 years ago. Trimble and I fished Bassin’ 4 Babies and we caught ~50-60 fish with about 15-20 slots mixed in. We had one fish that was close to 2 lbs. and the rest of the sack was 1.5’s. What bothered me was that at one point we were doubling up on traps and catching fish just over 16” and 13-14 inchers. I even caught two on the same trap that were both just over. There was a lack of 15 to 16 inch fish in that school but plenty of everything else. We were fishing shallow over grass on the east side of the lake.

Not that I have fished much in the last several years but I only recall having one 10lb. sack since then and I think that was 2011 in Super Teams. We had quite a bit of banter on here about the lack of 10lb. sacks back then. I reckon that is still an issue.

It is Tommy, it is.. When you win big fish with a 2.37 ??? we have issues with fat unders.. Granted 5 of those would make a heck of a limit.. Problem is ??? it just ain't happening any more.
remember 1999-2001 we had very low water, grass died off, LMBV.. wooo it got bad quick... only 2 things different from back then is:
#1 we don't have any LMBV issues.
#2 we now have Sandbass eatting everything in the shallows..
that includes Blk bass fingerlings, and believe this, Baby crappie..
The few fish that don't get eaten are having a hard time feeding and avoiding being eaten. We need the grass to come back, we've lost 5 good yrs of spawns, and we'll likely lose this upcoming one as well..
It just keeps compounding every year we suffer through this drought.. Hopefully good time are ahead, all will right it'self..
We have to deal with it till then.. jm2c's

I was out there with Wes one day when the LMBV had hit. We were astounded by the numbers of 3-8 pounders floating all across the lake. It was unreal.
