I love the Warmouth. One of my favorite freshwater fish to catch next to Crappie. They are vicious and will eat baits larger than they are. They are an absolute blast to catch around here on topwater baits on spawning beds. No sleet at least yet down here in South La but rain and winds out of a different direction everyday. The high, dirty, cold spillway water also causing problems around here. |

It's not the weather that is killing my fishing, it is work... The last couple of years I have not been able to take the time off during the week that I use to for fishing. Today was an absolute great day to be on Monticello or any other power plant lake. If the temps were going to get well below freezing, I would just go fishing in the morning instead of work. I may be able to talk my wife into letting me go to the lake for a few hours on Saturday morning but I have a deadline to get some work done around the house before insurance comes out to inspect drainage and gutter installation. If I would get that knocked out I would be under less pressure from the wife -- but where is the fun in that. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I forgot to mention that I too enjoy catching them "goggle-eye"... I stayed in Arkansas one summer during highschool years and the tanks were loaded with 1 pound plus goggle-eye. They are a blast to catch and as good as crappie to eat when you can catch them with any size. I like your pic... Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

The goggle eye is great fun to catch here in the San Gabriel about 10 minutes from my house in Leander, just north of Austin on US 183. They love the clear water and will nail a hair bug more often than not. Good fun! |

Simek, I just never pictured you as a fly fisherman for some reason. My vision had you with a zebco 202, green/white breakdown rod, and shiners -- with a case of beer on the creek bank... Cool deal tho, maybe one day you can teach me how to fly fish in those beautiful hill country rivers. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

And just what, exactly, is wrong with a zebco 202, green/white breakdown rod, and shiners -- with a case of beer on the creek bank?!?! Priorities, people!! Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.
