PINS = Padre Island National Seashore.
Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

Audra I don't know why you couldn't fish with a daquari in hand. I did with a bottle of crown in one and a bottle of Jim Beam in the other.

Although I never caught a fish I did hook a nice sea gull

That does not sound like you are wanting to shake my hand....

You and Keith go figure 'em out on Cooper or Tawakoni and we will put it together. Else, you will still have the chance to whack me over the head with the frying pan at Fairfield... :-)

Audra we drive (via 4x4) down 20 - 60 miles (depending on the water conditions) on the beach and setup camp in an area that looks like excellent fishing. Camp consists of tents and pickup truck beds converted into sleeping arrangements. Fishing, horseshoes, campfire stories, cooking, eating, drinking, surfing, kayaking and Bocci ball (if someone brings a set) is part of the scene.

No pressure, no people (except the camp scene), sun and fun and great times. Many of us toss a backpack full of beer and wade along the shoreline casting lures with a stringer wrapped around our waist for the keepers. The big rods are continuously watched and rebaited as we hang around the camp close by.

Some can drive along the beach chasing birds (looking for some fast fishing action) with lures and rods as others watch the big poles. No rules really except to respect others in camp and pick after yourself (no litter).

There are sea turtles down there and you spot them quite frequently along with coyotes and racoons. Some mornings you get a wakeup call (Border Patrol Helicopter) as they scan the dunes looking for illegals.

The King Ranch is behind you and the entire Gulf of Mexico is in front of you. The stars at night are unbelievable.

BigP we have that action right here SON!

A morning sunrise at the coast.

That sounds like a ton of fun! When does this take place? Is it by invite only? Would there really be people uncomfortable with a woman in the camp? :-)

Mike, you're right, I don't want to shake your hand...I want to hug your neck...and then...show you how to catch some fish! :-)

Audra it's by no mean an invite only get together. That's the joy of fishing PINS. This isn't some private get together that a few folks can only do (like a lot of the hunting BS) but a true open outing that families, kids, who ever are welcomed and can enjoy as a group. If the main camp is a little too loud, it's easy enough to find a quieter spot a few yards down from the main crowd. I love the beach better than a deer camp because it's absolutely free with no hangups, personalities, rules or costs (gas to get down there and food to eat in camp). A bargain outdoor experience.

Here's a pic of crowds as we cruise down the beach. So much pressure! :-)

Sturm here's a link to Bocce Ball. It's an Italian lawn bowling game we've modified into epic proportions for slow fishing periods down on the coast (during low tide). It's an absolute blast and you can hold a beer in the left hand and roll the ball with your right. Teams are paired up with 2 players per side, two teams. Winners hold the court for honors. It's an absolute blast playing this game on the dunes and beach. :-)
Bocce Ball

You can launch a boat from Port Mansfield and run out to the Port Mansfield jetties without any problems. The main channel is well marked and deep enough for offshore provider boats (oil bidness). The only problem with that plan is, if we setup at Big Shell for sharks and the surf is alive with big game, the Port Mansfield jetties are 30 miles to the south. But a boat down there is a good gig anytime you go. Excellent fishing for trout, redfish, flounder, snook, tarpon, mangrove snapper, spanish mackeral, jack crevalle, ladyfish, whiting, sandtrout, croaker, gafftop, king mackeral and a wide assortment of sharks (tigers, sand, blacktip, hammerheads, mako and bulls). A lot of folks run out in bass and bay boats and hit the edges of the jetties. Just pick the weather and you can fish 40 ft of water at the tips and that deeper water is full of big bull redfish.

Jason you can drop that stuff if you drink water, eat light meals (morning, early afternoon, early evening). They say don't eat after 7 pm, you drop that down 6 pm and drink water and eat only popcorn after that. Get on a vitamin supplement program (C, B, E, D). No Girl Scout cookies and refrain from your Mom's excellent cooking (have her think Jason and Diet). All Frito products are off limits too, not one chip. Like I said, if you can get down to BigL country that size will do you right (280 or 290). Take walks, do stretches and keep mobile. Remember some of those old football workouts and repeat them slowly at first. The more you move around the more you burn. As you drop you can increase the walks (take a dog with you) increase the exercise and drink water between breaks. Make it fun, set goals and don't bend nothing to make it easy on yourself. I will pray to give you the strength to do it. I know you can do it Bro!

Rob I am already on my way. I am down 14 pounds since the 3rd. More water and no meals after 6 are my biggest changes so far. Been trying to spend most of the day time outside but here lately the weatehr hasn't been cooperating for that. Lots going on outside the Prosser household right now when the weather gets good again.
I am so ready for this trip south. Just hope I can land that job in SA and be that much closer to it. I am hoping No News is still Good News but the longer I wait the more worried I get.
