Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I'll go first. largemouth 10 lb smallmouth 5 lb striper 20 lb sandbass 3 lb crappie 3 lb channel cat 20 lb blue cat 50 lb flat head 50 lb I'm guessing from here on out. speck 8 lb reds 20 lb flounder 10 lb I've come within a pound of the largemouth, smallmouth and crappie. I promised myself I wouldn't have a replica made unless I caught a 10lb largemouth or 5lb smallmouth. I thought I would have one by age 30 but things didn't turn out that way. So, hopefully by 60. If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related. My bass club webpage http://texbass.8m.com/

I'll go second largemouth 8 lb smallmouth 4 lb striper 20 lb sandbass 3 lb crappie 3 lb channel cat 10 lb blue cat 50 lb flat head 50 lb speck 8 lb reds 20 lb flounder 10 lb I haven't been able to break the 6lb mark on bass, hopefully this will be the year. Have caught a 57 lb blue on jugs. that was a nice fish. Like mark, haven't caught any specks, reds or flounder. I'll follow his lead on those. |

Don't know much about fresh water. For an average day I would consider these to be big fish but not the once in a season type of big. Specks: 26"+ = 6lb Reds: 35"+ = 9+lb Flounder: 21"+ 5+lb Once in a season or year: Spec - 28" 8-9lbs? Red - 38" 12-15lbs? Flounder - 24" 7-8lbs? Sound about right?? All In A Days Fun!!!

Dean, a 35" redfish weighing 9 lbs? Sounds awful skinny. Is that a typo? We catch 27" reds weighing 9+ lbs around here. For our area: Speck: I get excited over a 3 lb'er. They catch them 5-8 lbs one's once in wahile. Reds: Depends on bull or red. Bull 45 lbs. Rat Red 28 and less: 9+lbs. Flounder: no idea. Not very big. Bass: a nice bass around here 5+lbs. They catch larger but rare. A 10+ was caught in the spillway this weekend making big news. Crappie: 1 1/2 lbs+. |

Just had to take a look over here after talking to Michael last week. The board looks great! Back to the question -- Black Bass: 10# Striped/Hybrid Bass: 25# Crappie: 2.5# Channel/Blue Catfish: 40# Flathead Catfish: 40# Specks: 10# Reds: 27 inch Flounder: 10# I'm not much of a fresh water fisherman since I lived on the coast for so long, but being in Dallas, I'm going to give it a shot with my kayak this spring. |

Welcom to the site Rod... There are a couple different kayak fishermen on the site so far and I think you will find many places to get that boat wet and stretch your line. Ok, as I am sure that some of you have figured out, I am trying to put some boundaries on the FTN version of the Velvet Elvis. As with any award, the level of difficulty to optain is a direct reflection of the admiration from your peers. If it were as simple as to catch a fish and get an award, everyone would have one (Except for Greg ) and it would not be very meaningful. Also, we cannot generalize and give 1 weight for all fish species because that would almost immediately exclude some folks. So, if we set the level as attainable but still lofty, then we can all proudly brag about the quantity of awards we have received. So, keep the numbers coming and I will continue on the search for awards that are appropriate and measurements that are meaningful. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Wade - I dont know - I normally don't weigh them but once in a long while. I just want to see if they are legal or not. I didn't pay any attention to weight until I started posting here. It seems to me you are probably right. Recently I bought a digital scale so I might start paying attention to these details. For me, I am more interested in length and fight wrather than weight. Toooo late Tex... Your original numbers hold... We are not lowing the numbers so that you may have a better chance at getting an award... I have no intention of making the numbers equal to the "BIG" numbers. They will be slightly lower but still not "typical". Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I wish I had them figured out... I'd be rich from tournament winnings. I only have 1 over 11 and another one close to 10. Then it drops off pretty sharp from there. I do boat a couple 5s and usually at least one 6 or 7 pounder a year. But, I spend a lot of time on Fork where a 7 is not that uncommon. It's not the fisherman, it's the water I spend my time in -- even a blind squirrel finds a nut once and a while. I hope I am in the boat or at least on the water close by when you do land that fish Tex... I'll take plenty of pics for ya' and lift a cold beer in celebration. BTW: I am thinking LM Bass 5 pounds SM Bass 3.5 lb Striper 12 lb Hybrid 8 lb Sandy 2 lb Crappie 1.5 lb Perch/Goggle-eye .5 lb Channel/Blue 7 lb Flathead 30 lb (unless on an artificial -- 15 lb) Are these too lofty? Too loose? Maybe a general fish award and then the big fish award be different? Heck I don't know... Ya'lls feedback is officially requested. I personally am proud of all (well most all) of the fish I catch. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I think that's a good starting point for a recongnition award like the velvet elvis. We might have to come up with a great achievment award for those lofty weights. So what's the award going to be for this. I'm waiting for ATW to come up with something. By the way, do you work nights or do you just stay up all night? If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related. My bass club webpage http://texbass.8m.com/

I just stay up way too late most nights -- homework, working on web pges, online poker, surfin... Usually one of those. I have a test tonight so I was studying last night. Of course, with this cold I have I feel like crud today... Trying to decide if I am going to work or not.... Will do Strum... No decision at this point on the award... If anyone catches a 60lb bull redfish in Texas they set the State record. I caught a 72lb redfish in the Chesapeake Bay (they are bigger on the East Coast) and it wouldn't be fair to use that scale here. So a redfish over 40lbs is a nice haul on the Texas Coast (upper & lower). In Texas, any shark over 150lbs is a pretty good catch (unless you fish Tigers or Makos). Who's gonna weight a live one? Better use a tape measure and make it 6ft + for a trophy. BlackDrum saltwater in Texas a trophy would hit 40lbs. Striped bass on lakes would be 30lbs. Saltwater record is way low since stripers don't frequent the Texas Coast. Award of some type hmmmmmmmmmmmmm???? What's 3ft tall, 37 years old (just had a recent B-Day) and fishes with a Snoopy rod? |

What about a Billy Bass award? What about limits also? I think you should get awards for pictures of limits for the area since I don't fish areas that produce this type of fish often? Wes and ATW, we'll have to have the official Redfish tourney between you two to settle all this. 3ft and a box....good line BTW. |

Ya'll are too dang funny.... I agree that taking the time to post a picture with a little writeup is worth recognition no matter the size of the fish. I also think that there should be a different recognition for "big" fish. For limits we could maybe do a "full basket" award. We need to find a humorously decorated trout creel for the "Limit" award. I like the "Happy Fisherman" above.... Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Dean, the bowhunting website that most of us are members to gives an award called a Velvet Elvis for a archery harvest of any wild game if you provide a picture and story. Keeping with that spirit of rewarding members for sharing their experience with all of us is where I am trying to get to. It is not a competition against each other at all, but merely a method of recognizing accomplishments and getting folks to share their stories & pictures with the rest of us. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I like the "Bronze Fisherman" as well. I don't really care for my award to be associated with alcohol in any way. Not that I'm against partaking in a cold beverage from time to time...I just don't think it should be part of the award...unless the award is for who drank the most while fishing! I also like the thought of recocnition at a lower level for a well written report with LDP's of fish caught. For the BIG fish,,, largemouth 6 lb smallmouth 4 lb striper 15 lb sandbass 3 lb crappie 2 lb channel cat 8 lb blue cat 20 lb flat head 35 lb speck 5 lb reds split into two? one for "slot" and one for "Bull"? flounder 6 lb Love to fish and hunt.

I ain't weighing them and I aint getting too frisky with them except to pull or cut the hook off, snap a picture, measure and let them go (unless it's a mako - then it's steak city). I'll probably get the Iron Mike (IM), The Happy (THF) Fisherman and the Attention Whore Award (AWA) all rolled up into one if and when I land a big shark? |

How about we go with "The Happy Fisherman" for sharing pictures and a writeup? I'll try to save off a copy as a gif image and move it into the icon directory. For the big fish award what about a "Big Tuna" award????? I did some searching last night and was not able to find a comical decorated creel other than this one. I know I did not search the entire internet since I only took about an hour to do so. This is not exactly what I was hoping for but my hope is that it will spur some ideas. Possible "Full Creel" award:
