That thing looks like something a shark would eat to me!!! Especially with coon smell emitting from it. Just thought I would put that thought into your head. |

Glad to be here Mike. I plan to get the ole' Ranger all squared away and start doing some more fishing. Got to dig through the picture pile at home. Got a nice Lake Fork Large Mouth that should do just fine for a profile pic! |

Rob, How far ya goin out?? I saw an article in a magazine - maybe Texas Fish and Game - where some one cought a sail or marlin from one of those things!! Thats Crazy!! Man I get nervous heading out in my Ranger and especially nervous when the fish on is a 6+ft shark!! I hear of some pretty big sharks being cought in the surf as well! Be careful out there - we'd sure miss your posting reports and remarks! All In A Days Fun!!!

Pretty cool. My cousin just put money down on one. He just got a apartment in Corpus that is right on one of the channels. He said from his place he can look down the channel and see a whataburger and a bar, and both have a dock on the channel to tie off your boat. He said the other night him and a buddy paddled their kyaks down the channel to whataburger, got something to eat, and then went to the bar further down and got a few beers, then paddled home! He's weanting me to come down and fish with him, so I may look at stopping in for a day or so extra after we have the Rio Grande Shootout hunt in Setpember. |

For the beach fishing scene, I will paddle out a large shark bait 200 - 300 yards off the beach and surf the waves back in. My son Austin or someone else will tend the reel (clicker on with a very light drag) as it sits in a rod holder poked down into the sand. For night paddles, you simply add a waterproof headlight and paddle out. Once July - October hit, the Gulf hits the doldrums and calms way down. At that point, it's time to paddle off the beach 200 - 300 yards with a rod/reel, gaff and chase king mackerel. The plan is to cast spoons, jigs and Rattletraps and jig trawl ribbon fish. It's a great work out and you can literally get into some serious fish off the beach in deeper water. This same rig can be used for small ponds, rivers and streams where the water movement is slow and prime for good remote fishing. Here in Austin, Town Lake is an awesome, untapped fishing resource. I now can jump into the water near downtown with a bass rod and fish with a little excersise. Redneck88 I plan on adding a milk carton to the backside of the seat (tied down). You can also wear a light weight backpack and stuff a few slim plastic tackle organizers (lures, jigs, spoons & plastics) into that with your pliers, knife and wire cutters. Some will find a backpack thats small enough to wear backwards with the tackle up front. I will add a paddle lease with a float just incase I take a roll. It will keep the paddle and yak together, simply turn it back over, climb back up and take off. The key is to secure your fishing rod(s) on a clip so they don't sink to the bottom when your paddling through rough water or rapids. Here's a yak modification that works as a storage and rod holder solution. Jason this little yak is rated to 275lbs. I've got a lot of room to grow including my tackle before I top that number. It will certainly allow us to position our baits perfectly at PINS now without having to cast anymore. Here's a comparison with my old surfboard and this kayak. My old surfboard is 5'8" long and I used it through the 80's and early 90's surfing Hatteras & Virginia. No life jacket, only a lease and pure excersise paddling off the beach 200 yards in shark infested waters. Now since I've grown older, the yak puts me back out into the surf in a more controlled setting...life jacket, larger platform 9'6" with more power to stroke out and punch through the waves and I'm not dangling my feet or arms in the water anymore. Notice the similarity between my old surfboard and the kayak. An extension of my past into the present. Dean this little yak will be simply awesome fishing up in close to the rocks at the Port Mansfield jetties during the summer time. Toss this into the back of the truck, drive down PINS and setup at the jetties. The goal is to target Mangrove Snapper, Snook and Tarpon as they congregate up tight against the rocks (including reds, trout and spanish mackerel). It will allow me to get in close and fish them hard without worry of damaging a boat on the rocks or slipping off the rocks (slippery) or snagging lures and breaking them off due to snags. From the yak I can position myself in the prime parallel casting position and cast the rock wall line or jig in close along the bottom. You never can fish deep enough in close to the rocks, now I can. It's a perfect addition to a boat too. You can motor out and anchor then drop into the yak and hit fishing areas only a yak can handle. If you get tired of paddling, you can jump out and wade fish using the yak as your storage platform dragging it behind you with a waist lease. All kinds of potential with inshore bay fishing opportunities too. Wes and I have scheduled a yellow cat fishing operation in the Guadalupe River this summer near Sequin. Now we can work the river with a yak and manage the drop baits fairly easily using this rig too. It only weighs 38lbs so getting it down close to the river is a piece of cake. |

Rob will be a paddeling fool in the guadalupe in that current. I will just pick you up at the next bridge :-) That or I want to see him get a 50lb flathead off of a dropline in that thing. John and I aquired a 14ft john boat also a couple of months ago to go with the 9hp motor I bought from Terry off of TBH. The 12ftr was a little small for us out there. The neighbor has a good place for us to get it down to the river, just have to walk it across that one gravel bar to get to my place. We need to set this trip up... |

Wes I paddle into the drop rigs, tie on my shark fishing rod (85lb test PowerPro) and let you reel them in from the bank with a standup tuna rod. SON! |

Got a friend that fished out of a ole' flat bottom John boat all the time. Him and his fishing bud called it the "Chirpper". Due to the sound it made sliding over the timber. He saved till he could afford a nicer rig. Bought it. Retired the chirpper. He was not going to treat the nicer rig like that and would not fish the sticks. Quit catching good fish. Took the Chirpper out loaded the boat. Came home and put the new rig up for sell. Took the chirpper in for a tuneup and is happy to this day. |

Shallow water and stumps and such are key. Chirpper was meant to fish right on top of cover. |

Chris pretty soon! I will let you know when Austin and I are heading Southbound. I'm waiting for the local Corpus Christi surf fishing crews to report some serious surf action (water temps come up 5 more degrees). Once we know things are out of winter and into spring.... Southbound, styling/profiling and "going downtown" to a world that's all about stamina when it's FISH ON! Ain't no little "set the hook and horse them to the boat" here.......it's gonna require Wheaties for breakfast to land one of these big TOOFIE SOBs SON! Here's what I propose. We head down, setup camp, get the tackle setup and then Frank steps into the picture. A couple of tequila shots and he's paddling baits, doing push-ups on the sand and catching shark bait. We will sit in beach chairs and give out orders. I am assuming if Wes goes, he will assume the required "Napoleon Dictatorship" so critical in the survival of a deployed "Combat Fishing Team" living in remote & primitive conditions. Dictatorship Defined; dictatorship n : a form of government in which absolute power is concentrated in a dictator or a small clique; a government organization or group in which absolute power is so concentrated; a despotic state (Message edited by atthewall on February 17, 2005) |

Maybe a couple of kayaks and Town Lake or a few coves out Lago Vista will be the ticket? |
