I may enter the Solobass individual tournament on Lake Tawakoni this Sunday and I have no clue where to fish. I was thinking about starting in Rabbit Cove where Rudey and I caught a few during the FTN Day At The Lake last year. If That does not pan out I was considering running up into the Caddo arm because I know the water will be stained and should be several degrees warmer. Figured a white spinner bait may do me some justice up there. What about Cedar Cove???

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated...
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

God the life of a Bass Fishing Stud. :-)

Good luck Mike, go with what you know and work the water depth. Do you have a good lake chart?

I was looking at topozone.com and Hickory Creek is a protected set of coves with 2 decent looking creeks feeding into it with a good channel out to deep water. The only thing I don't know is if there is decent structure in that area. The only way to find out is to get my butt in there and check it out. I pulled up some 1991 information on Tawakoni and comparing it to current stuff. If this cove really is 20' in the middle and all the great looking points the topo shows... it should be a wirlwind of pre-spawn action if the water temps are favorable. Should be easy access to deep water for the fish and defined channels to use as highways up to the shallows to spawn.

I will also be buying a new Wakoni map since the one I have is early 90's version. I'll also search guide pages for fishing reports and get whatever info I can. A positive for me is, a lot of the anglers in the Solo tourny are also fishing Media on Saturday so they will not be able to pre-fish and be half tuckered from fighting the weather on Saturday.

The good news is that they will probably have about 40 - 50 entries, the bad news is, they only pay 1 place for every 5 entered. I need to re-string all my rods and put my game face on.

Sorry Mike, but I've never been on the lake. It's to dang close to Fork. My truck just refuses to make that right turn at the sign.

Good luck in the tournament.

That looks like as good of place to start as any.

I've never bass fished that lake, but I'm sure Keith would know some potential hot spots. He knows that lake very well. I'll get him to post, but it may be in the morning.

Audra to the rescue!

Mike it looks like a very good early spring time setup. From the contour of the shoreline, your going to experience a lot of bottom structure just by virtue of the water depth contours.

Never fished it this early Mike. Seems like every tourny I fished on the lake was during the middle of the summer. We just fished boat docks all the time.

Good luck

Be careful, they are calling for high winds and that lake gets nasty quick. If you see a guy in a bass cat with an evinrude on the back tell him I said hi. His name is Tommy Yetts, he owns Rockwall Marine. I would be fishing this tournament but I have one on Ray Hubbard Saturday.

Everything I have heard about this lake is fish shallow and around boat docks and marinas.

Mike, I use this web site sometimes. I like the fact it gives you GPS coordinates where ever your cursor is placed. Good luck to you

Thanks Dru, I got it bookmarked...

Charles, thanks for taking the wind out of my sails... :-) It would be rough going from the State Park up to Hickory Cove with a 13 - 15 MPH wind on that lake. I may be forced to fish the South side of the lake... :-(

Picou- Just go fishing. Do what you would normally do. I have had some success blind fishing this winter. Good luck. I have a tourney this weekend too.

Oz, I placed 56th out of 80. I have learned a little from Tom C. and realize where I made some mistakes. I am too use to fishing Fork and wooden boat docs... :-(
