The Mrs. gave me the green light to fish on Monday after work. My old high school buddy and I met at the lake at 3:30. They have been discharging water from Lake Austin into Town Lake constantly for the last couple days. I think the LCRA is working on the dam on the Lake Austin side and they needed to lower Lake Austin's level to do so. Makes is hard to fish Town Lake when this happens. Action was slow for the first hour so we got a bit adventurous. Trying to get to the dam is difficult when water is being discharged, but can be done. A little portage through remnants of the old dam that washed away in the early 1900's and you can reach the base of Tom Miller Dam. Made it to the dam. Fished hard for another hour and a half and nothing. Hit the discharge full speed, dodged the rocks and shot back down the lake. At 6 o'clock the action finally started. I missed my first bite but hooked the second. A beautiful 21 inch, 6 lb. Largemouth. A quick pic and back she went. Jarrod followed with 2 nice fish. We managed to catch a couple good fish when conditions weren't perfect and didn't flip the canoe. A good day. Good luck everybody. |
