when would yall not go fishing in a boat of decent size (bass 18 foot say)in a body of water the size of a medium sized lake(it takes 5 min to cross @30 mph)(according to weather)? what are the limits: wind speed, baro, rain , tstorms, lightning, whatever. im just trying to figure out (because we are getting rain now) what everybodies opinion.

Well I know I wouldn't be out in this tonight. If the weather just called for light showers without much threat of severe weather I would go.

We got caught in one more storm up the Pecan Bayou one summer. We were in my grandpa's lone star boat and it started to hail. We made for the shore and found a barn to get in by the time the stones got real big. Storm lasted about 30 minutes and we started the 13 miles back to Byrd's Store at full throttle. Got home and it started to hail some more and that night we lost half the hay barn to a twister. Thing about it was that morning when we left there was 0% chance of rain.

If it is T-Storms and lighting, I will stay home. I was caught in a bad storm once in a lake and damaged my old boat when we got to the docks. I don't want that to happen again.

I don't play with lightning and try to stay out of open water when the winds are up over 15 - 20MPH. Rain has never bothered me tho. I have been out in higher winds and the pucker factor is too high for my liking... :-)
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I'll tell ya this, I was fishing up White Rock Creek on Livingston in late March and when returning down river to Watewood Marina the waves were giant. I'm in a 19ft Basscat and when I entered the marked river channel the stump field on each side prevented turning or trying to turn around. I have never encoundered such a storm and will promise this. "Never Again". Many a wave came completely over the front. I had to go several miles before being able to get out of of it.

Lightning is about the only thing that will keep me off the water, but I don't care much for white caps either. Makes it hard to fish.

Just say no to lightning.

The wind depends on the boat's sea keeping capabilities. I've seen pictures of yours Sturm and she's not the best for stuff over a 1ft, wind-blown confused chop. I would be safe to say if you encounter sustained winds of 18 - 20 mph with gusts to 25 you have a situation that isn't too fun or safe.

Lightening never. Northern front coming in, never on open water lakes. I've fished many places but Lake Fork still is in the top three scariest feelings I've had to experience. That is one rough sucker and you don't always see it coming in time back in the coves in the trees.
