Thinking about headong out there this weekend. Picou...I know you hit this water often. Have you or anyone else been out there yet this year. Where should I be concentrating on? Bass, crappie...whatever! Thinking of bringing the canoe but I think the fiance is tagging along and it may be a day of shore fishing because I don't have a stabilizer yet! Anyway, any help would be appreciated!

Fiance = trollin motor... :-)

I have not been yet this year so I am very eager to hear your report. I read a report a week or so ago that a lot of buck bass were cruising the shallows and the water was in great shape. I'll be out there Wednesday w/ Wes for one of our Annual meetings at the lake -- more beer drinking than fishing... :-)

I think your timing is perfect to head out there. Burn some traps over the grass, slowly work some grn-pumpkin lizards on the edges, twitch a fluke over the grass, or use the craw worm to fish all the structure you can reach.

I caught my 11 pounder out there on the first nice day after a string of nasty weather. Saturday is shapin up to be a great day for spring bass fishing. Let us know how it goes and take the camera with you... :-)
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

When you put in at the ramp, make sure to fish that cove & on the north shoreline and then follow that shoreline North until it heads east again. From there go directly across the lake and either fish into that cove or follow the shoreline north. If you are in the canoe, I would concentrate on soft plastics -- green pumpkin lizard or flukes. Craw worms are good also.

Make sure to post a report so I know what to expect for Wednesday and take lots of pics because you should be catching a lot of fish tomorrow with it being the first really nice day after all this crud we have had. Emory is calling for a high of 70 degrees tomorrow so I would imagine that it will be at least that warm down there.

Good luck Jay and sorry about not having any XXL in the hoodies for ya'. I should have ordered a few of those.

That's actually what I was planning on doing. I have maps in hand. I'm planning on putting in by the campgrounds, and hitting right there on that point! Then work my way up the shoreline away from the road. I'm going to have a couple rods set up. I'm going to have Carmen (fiance) throwing roosters or beetlespins. I'll start out with pumpkinseed lizards. I'll have a couple rods set up with spinnerbaits, shad raps, and rattle traps. Meanwhile, I will have a rig that will be in the water at all times. Going to use some shiners or gold fish and have them under a bobber the whole way...we'll see what happens with that there rig! Wish me luck and hopefully I have pics worth posting!

Here's an update!!!

We didn't do too bad. Talked to many people and it really seemed that we were the only ones catching fish. It was slow, but we managed to catch a half dozen. Of course Carmen got biggest (her only fish). She boated a five pounder on a carolina rigged 7" Powerworm (pumpkinseed). I managed to boat fish on the same bait, as well as a green powerlizard, and a 4" powercraw! We fished the north shoreline. Tough in a canoe. We went into the first cove by the dock at the campground. Ended up busting one blade of the trolling motor which slowed us up. Our first casts were at 7:30, and we left around 2. All fish were caught early. Both of us lost big fish that wrapped up on underwater stumps....that sux, but that's what you get while fishing those types of lakes.

Seemed like everyone else was throwing either chartruese crankbaits or spinnerbaits. some others were throwing black jigs, but they weren't doing well either. One fish (the first one) was the only fish that was holding tight to visable cover. The others seemed to be caught in open water, but you never know what was under us. All of our fish were over a pound, so that aint bad...I guess. we had fun, aside from the trolling motor thing. Need to buy a couple more props and I'll head back out there again.

Hopefully the pics work.

Nice fish. I really need to fish that lake again. It's been about 10 years since I've been there.

Congrats to both of you for a successful trip.

Sounds like an awesome day fishing, big fish and a nice looking fishing partner that likes to fish. Is there anything better?

No....there isn't much better! She even likes to come out with me when I hunt!!!! She'll never shoot a bow...especially at an animal, but she loves to get out in the woods and just watch. She'll even sit in the duck blind with me....if she's not too cold.

Picou....gimme an update on how you did. Looking out my office window (unfortunately sitting here), it looks like a great day to be on the water.

Charles, that could almost be taken wrong! :-)

U are probably right. Picou's trolling batteries are probably 6 years old and lasted about an hour in a wind. He is so tight!!

It was a ROUGH day on the water yesterday but we caught some fish. I'll download the pics and post later.

Bigun, new crankin and trollin batteries bought in January. There was still strength in them at the end of the day -- my wife paid for them, not me... :-)

This is what has taken me so long to post the results. Had a roofer here to replace the decking and shingles. I replaced all the 2x4s and put new facia up. I have finally installed all of the 180+' that needed replaced. Connie went around and caulked all the seams and joints. Now it needs a couple coats of paint and then gutters installed. Pest control will be out monday to treat the carpenter ant problems. I think I got the nest out and I know I killed a couple thousand of them.

Anyway, the pics have been resized and I will be makin the post shortly.
