I mean the real one.

I've always wanted to publicly berate some people for the way they screw up a boat ramp. I'm talking mainly about the yankees who invade our lakes every spring. I've had it out with many of them in person, but I don't have time to straighten'em all out.

While you are patiently waiting in line, with your headlights off of course, and well out of everyones way. Take the tie downs off the back, put the plug in, and don't forget to give the old primer bulb a little love. Start the •••• motor just to make sure it will, and untie the strap on the nose. As your buddie is backing you down the ramp, start the motor again the instant the prop hits the water. Do this and by the time you're deep enough to float have'er in reverse and the truck never sees park. If you're going at it by yourself, either beach the boat away from the ramp while you go park the truck, or tie it to the dock in such a way that it doesn't block off 3 lanes! It's that simple folks so DO IT so ramp ragers like me won't be tempted to hit you in the ear with a 1oz. egg sinker.

And if it don't start, for the love of god Don't play mr boatwrench on the ramp.......Get out of the way!

Any other suggestions?

I hate when you have a two lane ramp and some idiot backs right down the middle, using both lanes.

What about the guy who loads his boat just fine, but then pulls up about 10 feet and decides to take his plugs out and straighten up, right then and there

What's wrong with y'all? Watching some yuppie with a $40k boat take 15 trys in his H2 is half the fun of fishing trips.

Especially when you know he hasn't put his plug in! :-O

LOL Devin! There are idiots everywhere! I have gotten pretty steamed many a times from people who don't have their chit together at the ramp.

I think if you're gonna be in the boat, you need to know how to back a trailer. You never know what might happen. If you can't back it, get out and ask some young, good looking guy (like Dale Moser) to do it for you. Don't waste everybody else's time while you try to learn!!

I hate it when the person who is fishing with you says he can back a boat trailer up, but he actually sucks at it, and while your in the boat in the water he is making a fool of himself and you, trying to back your truck and trailer up. Then when you motion for them to come back more or move up they do not pay attention to you.

A guy I used to fish with knew that he was bad at backing the trailer, he avoided the lake during the peak times unless someone who could handle the trailer went with him. He could load and unload the boat just fine though so it worked out ok.

Another annoyance... when I back down, I hug the edge of the ramp to make sure that there is plenty of room. Then some guy next in line sits there waiting and holding everyone else up because he thinks there is not enough room for him. Oh well, that is why they call them "PUBLIC" ramps. I do wish everyone would kill the headlights when they back down though. It is tough coming down the ramp with headlights blinding me in all mirrors.

I believe some people just don't know any better. My parents didn't own a boat so I didn't know all the ramp etiquet when I got my first boat. I'm not talking about blocking the ramps but the stuff like turning off your headlights and making sure your engine starts before backing in. My personal favorite is the car or truch that can't get enough traction to pull the boat back up the ramp. Oh the smell of burning rubber. They don't give up either. Usually have to find some guys to help push the car. And it always happens when you're in a hurry.

A guy that was on one of our deer leases several years ago fished tournaments almost every weekend that he wasn't hunting. He got a new truck, and it had those automatic headlights, one of the first years they ever came out. Anyway, he had no way of turning them off. He tried everything but they stayed on. He got yelled at a lot at boatramps. So much so that he got to where he'd yell back and tell them if they were so smart to come turn the lights off themselves!! Nobody ever could.

I learned (at least on some of the later models) that you could set the parking brake to turn off the lights. Don't know that he tried that, or if it would have even worked.

On my 99 Chevy, if it was dark outside, you had to turn the truck completely off, push the e-brake a little, then start the truck to keep the lights off.

I hate it when the people just leave their trucks and trailers on the ramp so no one else can get into the water there...

That happened this summer more than once at Lake Belton.

What aggrevates me to no end is when you are at a crowded ramp. The way people park in the parking lot after unloading makes it nearly impossible sometimes to maneuver a large trailer through them. If they would park in the marked spots like they are supposed too it would solve the problem but some people just don;t know how to park!

We used to fish at squaw creek a couple of times a year with the Irving Bass club. One thing I noticed at that lake was that people that were by themselves would unhook their boat, back into the lake and just let the boat drift off. They would then go park their truck and walk back to the ramp and ask for a ride to their boat. It was almost like an unwritten rule at that lake, but it kept one person from tying up part of the boat ramp for a long time.

I remember one time at Lake Corpus Christi there was a ramp that wasn't that long. right at the end of the concrete there was a big sashout from folks gunning their motors to get their boats up on their trailers. One Day a guy pulls up in a big F-350 Ford 4 wheel drive, gets out to ready the boat. His wife jumps behind the wheel and starts backing it in, the guy is in the boat , we tell her not to go too far because of the washout, but he keeps screaming at her "come on back some more" well she does and off goes the boat trailer into the washout with the truck following it in. When she finally got it stopped the only thing sticking out of the water was the cab, luckily the water got into the back on the cabin, but not much in the engine compartment. After he threw a fit and finally cooled off I asked him if he wanted me to pull him out. Glad to say the ol Suburban had to rescue another Ford,,, it was kind of funny after us telling her not to go any farther.
