OK Bigun - Just FYI - last trip I went out 28 miles. The guy I was with said we realy put over 60 miles round trip. Yesterday I filled it up and we used 20 gallons of gas. The way I figure it, I get 2.8 miles to the gallon with 70 gallons = 196 mile total range or 98 mile range one way. I'd dare to venture 50 - 60 miles out under the right circumstances. Still - I will take it one step at a time extendng my range by maybe 10 mile incriments spread over several trips.

That's one place I wouldn't want to run out of gas. Be careful out there.

That is pretty good gas mileage out of a big motor. What engine do you have?

The motor is a Suzuki 250hp 4 stroke.

I often think - what do you do if you break down out there? I have a VHF distress tied to my GPS but how do you know if it works? I always bring a case of water on board and I guess Sushi is an option. I should probably bring some lemons - just in case - New meaning to "crash diet" :-)

Don't forget that water conditions will also play a role in fuel economy. The more water you are plowing the more fuel you will burn.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

You pay an enormous towing bill is what happens! :-)

I still think you bought the wrong boat to do what you want to do. Why don't you give me that Ranger and go buy you an Offshore boat! I promise, I'll bring you fishing once in a while! :-)

Bigun - I didn't realize how much fun it is to go off shore fishing until after I got this boat. I totally agree with you about that! Once I cought my first 40" king it was all over - I am hooked. I now wish I had bought a 27' or 28' Grady White or something - but then again - they cost around $100K by the time you put 2 motors and electronics on them - not to mention that it will cost twice as much in fuel to go out.

Naa, I just pick and choose my days to go out, Otherwist the Specs and Reds are plenty of excitment.

Went fishin yesterday with a few customers. We cought a few dozen black drum, a few rat reds, and one slot red at 21" - nothing picture worthy. The wind was out of the NNW at around 30kts. The bay was rough and muddy. We stayed in protected water in the marshes but it was still off in color.

Going again tomorrow with a Rebekahs Horse Trainer's brother. We,ll see how the water is and decide if we want to go to the jetties or stay back in the marshes. I think the Sheephead and Big Black Drum are running on the Jetties? I also hear the trout are feeding on the reefs in shallow water. One guide I was talking to said they are catching a lot of 5 to 7 pounders and Monday they cought a 8.9 pounder. That is some BIG trout. I might hook up with him next week and see.

When I start Killen em I'll be posting the results so, Greg, We'll have to hook up then. Or even better, let me know when I can meet you in POC and you can show me around! I'll bring my rig down there - no problem!

Dean, that is where all the trout are around here right now. 2-3" oyster reefs. They are absolutely on fire right now. No 5 to 7 lbs but easy limits. Just find the reefs with the most bait on them and I promise the trout will be there.

BTW, I was just giving you a hard time about the boat.

But I know where you could probably pick up a 25' Wellcraft cuddy cabin with twin Yahama's on it for about 15,000 and probably cheaper. I knew of one for sale for about 8000. Don't know if they sold it or not.
