Wes and I started meeting at Purtis Creek after he moved to Austin because it seemed like it was an equal drive -- guess that is not really the case... :-) Wes finally convinced me that it is a solid 3 hours for him.

Wes got to the lake slightly later than I did so he hopped in the boat and we headed across to try and put our first fish in the boat.

It was about 30 minutes into the morning when Wes exclaims, "there's a fish!, as he goes on point. I hear the rod slice the air and all the sudden a 10" bass is launched from his hiding place a solid 12 foot thru the air towards the boat. Wes franticly tries to reel up all the immediate slack created by this aerial acrobat but when he gets to tight line the fish is gone. We laugh and move on.

After spending a couple hours casting lizards and traps we see some fish on beds and decide to break tradition and try to catch a few of them while out of the wind. Wes finally got a buck bass to take the lizard but it was not worthy of a picture -- tradition. We fought the wind for some time and ended up in another cove where we saw several bedded fish. We opted for an obnoxiously loud color so that we could see when the fish took the bait because even when seeing that fish take his lizard at 5 feet away Wes still did not feel the bite. We opted for a chart/watermelon Tiki Stick and all of the sudden life was different. With in a few pitches Wes nailed another fish. While he was working on another fish, I pitched into the abis and pulled up to a wet towel feel that I figured was grass. I brought this nice little bass up to the surface with a steady pull and she let go while I sat there dumbfounded. We worked back into the cove and on the way back Wes decided he was going to catch that fish. I positioned the boat and he pitched a few times and got her to take it. He set the hook, brought her to the surface and she came unbuttoned after the first tail walk. We moved around a little bit and I repositioned the boat for a different angle and this time he successfully got her into the boat.

Not too far up the shoreline I saw a pair on a bed and made the cast to them just to end up in an overhanging tree. I dropped it out of tree about 4 feet from the bed and she B-Lined it to my tiki stick and the fight was on.

We kept this up for a while with the sparse fish caught just casting the shoreline and some coming off beds. We decided to head back to the north end of the lake and as we came around the island I picked another up on the stick while Wes lounged in the seat of the boat with his 2 fish lead. This got him off his butt and fishing again. I had two fish blow up at my stick while bringing it back to the boat so we picked up the spinnerbaits and boated a quick 5 more fish to close out the day.

Total fish for the day -- 13 (none were weighed)
Wes -- 7 fish
Mike -- 6 fish

We had a heck of a time on the water dispite the wind and drank a few beers -- he beat me in that one also... :-) I look forward to the next time buddy
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

It was a good to be out on the lake again. It would have been nice if the wind layed down a little. If you live near purtis I would get out there right now. With the nice weather the last couple of days, fishing should be awsome right now.
Mike, looking forward to the trip to Fork in April, it should be a blast.

Great to see you guys found some fish. When is the date for Fork?
If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related.
