I had hoped that we would go to Fork but I woke with a note on my chest that said -- Jessica soccer practice 5:30... Since it was already 8:00am I new that Fork was a long shot. Then I watched the weather and saw 20 - 25 MPH winds and knew that Fork was out of the question. So we opted to go to Lake Bonham instead for a half a day of fishing and an opportunity for the kids to get some practice with their new spinning rods.

Corey already had some practice but Jessica had never casted one before so most of the morning was spent fighting the wind and teaching her how to cast her new rod. We ended up in a semi-calm cove and had a boat working towards us as we worked the reeds. I saw the fellow in the back of the boat set the hook and it appeared to be a decent fish. It was not until they got her out of the water I realized how good of a fish it was -- 8.2 pounds on a black/blue "Sweet Beaver".

The wind was blowing them right to us and I was logded in the reeds so we got a chance to chat. Turns out they were down from Nebraska for a week long fishing vacation where they would be hitting a couple of small lakes and then rounding out their trip with some Lake Fork lunker chasing. It was great talking to them and to my suprise they admitted they were familiar with the site. I look forward to seeing some posts from Nebraska in the next week or so. :-) I can't wait to hear how their vacation went.

Well, the kids and I pitched the reeds and worked on their casting while fighting the winds. I finally managed a nice little fish on a spinnerbait (Tex, you are rubbin off on me). Didn't weigh it due to once the pic was taken we were getting too close to shore and I needed to get on the trolling motor.

We fought the wind and the muddy water and managed a couple more fish while the kids honed their ability to cast their new rods. Spinnerbaits were the ticket today that caught all of our fish including Corey's first bass on her new rod.

We had a great time dispite the winds. Too bad we had to cut the day short for soccer, but a commitment is a commitment and if we miss practice we don't play in the game on Saturday. I hope to get the kids out again soon for some more casting practice. They are doing great and perfection is just around the corner.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I'm glad to see I'm rubbing off on you. I'll have you throwing nothing but spinnerbaits before long.

I was out on Ray Roberts friday. Great water temp everywhere I went, but like Fork fishing was still a little slow. Ended up with a couple in the boat and another one that threw my spinner.
