It was a great time as usual at the Ozziefish camp. The beer flows smoother than most places and the laughs are always at high. This one had an even better twist -- it was Ozziefish's birthday... HAPPY BIRTHDAY OZ Charles and I met up in Emory and headed to Oz's place to launch and fish the afternoon on Friday. Oz & Wes were hangin out at the trailer taking a breather from the wind so introductions were in order and Ozziefish wanted to show off his new boat. Ozziefish showing Charles it really is big Once that was out of the way it was time to stategize over another beer Charles & Oz discussing favorite fishing holes Soon we were off into the wind, me in Charles' bass cat and Wes & Oz in the monster triton. They decided to crappie fish and drink a few more while Charles and I casted for bass and consumed a few ourselves. It was to no avail and Charles had to scoot so he dropped me on the triton -- they accepted me reluctantly. Shortly after I got on board Wes picked up a spinner bait and landed a nice slot fish. Wes' Friday bass We fished for a short while longer and headed to the house to stoke the fire and drink more beer before the steaks were put on -- 1"+ thick ribeye steaks in my favorite marinade. At some point in time between the steaks being cooked and us returning, the other two members of this weekend's celebration arrived -- Ron & Tom(Briminator). As the sun set the lights on the doc were set in place and the crappie fishing started -- accompanied by more beer drinking. I think a few small crappie were landed during this time but not really sure about that. When the steaks came off the grill Wes and I quickly chowed the extra steak before calling everyone to dinner. Then we both continued to eat or other steak and a potatoe and we were stuffed beyond full. Wes was the smart one and decided to stay at the trailer while the rest of us headed to the Little Mustang bridge to try and land some more crappie. I apparently fell asleep on the ride over there and was awakened by them crawling over me to tie the boat. I assisted with that and managed to put a minnow on the hook to drop into the water as we all waited for our first bite. Patiently waiting Next thing I know I hear someone exclaim -- "I'm In!" Sometime after taking that picture I moved my tackle bag under my head and stretched out across the bow. Just as I was drifting off I heard Oz tell me, "Dude, Your In!" so I responded with, "get it..." Oz landed my first crappie of the weekend and kindly rebaited my hook and put the line out. I quietly drifted back off to sleep just to hear then tell me I caught a catfish also -- thanks for manning my fishing rod Ozziefish. I apparently slept in my cozy spot for the boat ride back to the trailer and managed to make it up to the couch where I slept the rest of the night. Saturday morning came and once everyone crawled out of bed we had a great breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, and coffee prepared by our gracious host. As we completed our breakfast one of the neighbors pulled up by the ramp talking about his big fish that morning and pulled this brute out of the livewell. That was enough encouragement for us to get the boat in the water and get to it. But before we could launch, a lifting of the first beer of the day was needed. Oz wanted to show us what his boat could do so we made a run down the lake around by the 154 ramp and just cast around hoping to get bit. We fished off and on with Wes boating 2 bass later in the day. Wes' Saturday bass This eventually got old and the beer was running low so we went back to the house to get more beer and eat some lunch -- not to mention toss a few more logs on the brisket that Ozziefish was preparing for dinner. We decided to just finish out the day crappie fishing. There were some crappie caught this evening also and I did get a chance to reel in a few on Oz's pole so technically I did not get skunked but I must admit that I did not boat a single fish with my own fishing poles. Wes on the other hand was kicking our butts on not only the bass but the crappie as well. I did have one crappie on the line that got off before I got him up. To top it off, after eating some awesome brisket we were down on the doc fishing for crappie and when I walked away to get a beer Oz caught a nice catfish on the rod I had set out. It's ok with me because just as the night before I was stuffed to the gills with food -- that brisket was tender, sweet, and delicious. Great job on the brisket buddy... Sunday came and it was time for me to come home so I left Oz & Wes as they launched the boat again for one last chance at boating that lunker largemouth. Oz, I had a great time and the food was most excellent dude... Once again we drank more beer than anyone should be allowed to drink in a weekend but heck, it just flows so well there. Thanks again for the great time and I look forward to the next time I lift a cold one with you and let you catch my fish for me. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Looks like I missed a great time. Way to go, Wes. Picou, I'm still disappointed in you. If not for the great looking job on those crawfish in your thread, I'd have to Think about revoking your coonie rights. Charles, great meeting you also. We ended up catching 3 more fish on Sunday. All on spinnerbaits. It was a great weekend. I finally hit the road about 5 for the 4+ hour drive home. It was a LONG drive home.... Oz, looking forward to the next trip up there. |

Nice job Picou, I really enjoyed the recap!! You did fail to mention a few things so I'll help out here. I guess the lack of hair has really impacted my ability to hold a FishingTexas.Net cap on my head. We lost it once and it was recovered it but the 2nd time she was a goner Picou was kind enough to allow me to purchase a new cap on Sunday which I lost once again and recovered from Cap eating Lake Fork. This time it was sitting on the seat next to Wes and I and it just disappeared. We spent 20mins looking for it in Mustang Creek. Picou, it is now safe at home… “When’s that brisket gona be done” (inside Joke) OzzieFish "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder"

LMAO......... Brrrrp 200...... and list goes on... Oz, I almost fell over laughing when I listened to Wes' voicemail about you loosing the cap again... I'm looking for a replacement shirt also since you lost your shirt going across the lake also -- must be the Mercury.... Oh yea, there was that proud moment Wes had telling us how he made you shoot beer out your nose also -- classic... For those who missed this weekend at Lake Fork you missed virtually non-stop laughter, much harrassment, lots of drinking, and excellent eating. Charles, thanks again for letting me ride with you for a little Friday afternoon fishing. My cell phone battery expired and I have not bought a car charger for it yet so that is why I could not return your call -- your's too Keith (sorry guys) Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Yes, it was a fun time had by all. My nose still hurts from the MUDDSTONE exiting my nostrils. I forgot about the Trailer Trash shirt I lost too. On a side note there was a bunch of fish cruising the shore line and bedding. I think I'll make a post about the IBC open coming in two weeks. OzzieFish "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder"

Dang It! Why do I always have to miss out on the fun. Answer: So I don't have to pay child support. Thanks Mike for drinking my share of the beer. If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related. My bass club webpage http://texbass.8m.com/
