I haven't posted in a while, but thought I'd share my trip to Arkansas over the weekend. My buddy has been trying to get me to come to Ar. to visit and attend the annual fishing trip with some members from deer camp. Every year something comes up and I end up not going, so I was determined to try and make this one.

I've always heard how beautiful the lake was and I certainly wasn't disappointed. The water was clear and the dogwoods were in bloom with mountains in the background. It was a breath taking site. I caught myself on many occasions just standing there with my rod in my hand looking around instead of fishing. I only took a few pictures and they don't nearly do it justice.

We managed to catch about 20-25 fish each day with some nice ones to boot.

Most of the fish were in the very back of pockets or under log jams.

I also caught my first pike ever. We actually caught quite a few of them.

The fish were biting pretty good at times, though not always big.

I even managed to catch the ever elusive gaspergoo.

It was a heck of a weekend. The food was great the beer was cold and the entertainment was non stop...Hope you enjoy.

I bet you regret putting off the annual trip now and will not miss any more. From your pictures, it looks like a Chamber of Commerce day.
Lake Ouachita is and absolutely beautiful lake. I fished there 2 or 3 times about 10 years ago chasing those monstrous Striped Bass they have, but we never caught one. It’s still a dream of mine to get one of their 40-50 pound Stripers in the boat. Did you hear or see anyone catching Stripers while you were there? That’s a trip I WILL make again.

Keith, there were several striper guides working out of Shangri La marina, but did not hear how they did. We saw some fish hitting on top and believed they were stripers, but couldn't get one to bite. I heard a tale of my friend and his brother that hooked one and proceeded to strip all the line off his reel. They were able to pick the line up off the water and get it back on the reel and continued the fight however it ended up getting off. It sounded like a monster.

Robert, gaspergoo is otherwise known as a drum.

First year and definately not the last one...

What an awesome weekend Richard. Those are some great pictures of excellent scenery and great lookin fish -- can't speak much for the fishermen though... :-) Congrats on a heck of a trip.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

There was a turkey gobbling in the draw behind me in this pic on Friday.

The season opened Sat. morning and a few in our group were going after them. I need to find out if anyone bagged that bird.

Great writeup Richard. Looks like you guys had excellent weather and good results. I've been suprised that you haven't been posting pics of some fish from the lake at the lease. How long has it been since you fished there?
