As much fishin as I am doing I finally took the camera along. Went fishing at the Port Aransas Jetties for a few hours on Thursday and did OK.

Water was a little rough:

Cought 1 Trout at 22.5in:

and ended up with 5 keeper trout:

Not bad for a short trip! We had fresh Trout on the grill and - mmmmmm--mmmmm Good!

I've fished those jetties before. Seeing those fish makes me want to return again. Great job on getting some good eating fish in the boat.

Good job! I may take a trip this summer with my son and try and catch some specks. Is summer a good time for trout?

I don't know the story behind that boat - I just wish that was mine so I could collect the insurance!! :-) My Ranger is still having issues.

The water was rough in my buddies 18' Cajun CC. Big Swells!

I have fished the PA Jetties 3 times and the water has always been really nice! I have always cought fish too! I wouldn't mind living there.

Dean, hopefully I'll know something after this weekend depending on the weather and boats we end up dragging down to Grand Isle. I'll have a full array of pictures and story Sunday afternoon or Monday evening. May want to start watching www.louisianasportsman.com and see what the snapper reports are from Tommy Pellegrin or any of the Point Cocodrie boats. I think it opened this weekend.

Heck yeah Dean and Congratulations!

I agree, Port Aransas is an awesome fishery. The Port Mansfield jetties are even better...way better. No traffic and deeper water in closer proximity.

The next inlet down from Port Aransas (between Port A and Brownsville).

Boats put in at Port Mansfield Texas (the South side of the King Ranch).

Yep - Looks like a BLAST!! Maybe we should hook up for a few days down there and do some Jetty fishing and some deep water fishing. Can you squeeze a few week days off? Any hotels around there?

There isn't alot down there on the beach side, it's 4x4 country and 60 miles to get to the jetties. Via boat, you drive down to Port Mansfield (South side of the King Ranch) and pull into/launch from the small community of Port Mansfield. Launch and fish the Laguna Madre on the inside or run out to the jetties or slightly offshore for Kings, Spanish Mackerel, Jackfish (you know the game). Another option is to camp out just inside the North Jetties and run the boat up on the sand at night with the anchor tossed up on the grassline. If we haul a lot of gear, a couple of quick runs from Port Mansfield to camp is a piece of cake.

The City of Port Mansfield has a few cottages I believe too. How booked during the summer time I'm not sure. I can get off during the week without issue.

There is a serious tarpon and King Mackerel fishery down there. The Port Mansfield entrance buoy roughly a mile offshore is loaded with Kings when they finally hit the surf. We've spotted big killer tarpon greyhounding the inside channel of the South Jetties last year. A simple drift with a free lined live bait from the boat should provide serious hookups.

Drifter and I have the strat down to fine science there.
