Started Wednesday like all of the rest - figuring on going fishing Tomorrow! Around 10:00 am I decided - GOTTA GO - CANT WAIT! Called som friends but no one could go. I really wanted to go offshore but no one would or could co --- bummer. OK I'll go bay fishing solo'. When I got to Galveston around 12-1 the water looked good, fairley calm, so I stopped and threw the cast net for a while. Cought some mullet from 4 to 10 inches - hmmmmm what can I do with this???? Keep it anyway - ya never know what is gonna happen.. Put in at GYB and bought a quart of GIANT live shrimp. Started out to the jetties and the water was really nice and pretty calm - I decided that if the water was OK I am going out!! Went to the end of the jetties and the water was ok - not great but OK. What the heck -- I'm goin for it!! I know a location about 16 miles out and decided to go for a joy ride. At this point I remembered that I forgot the camera!! Dangit!!! When I reached the Rig around 3:15. By this time the wind was blowing harder and the seas were getting a little rougher so I decided not to tie off to the rig - just drift. I put my biggest mullet on and free lined him at the rig - put the rod in the holder and proceeded to drop another line for snapper with 2 small finger mullet. Before I could finish baiting the line I looked up and the mullet had been consumed! The rod was doubled over and it was on!! I pulled the rod and fought this fish for about 20min before I finally got to see it - Jack C... Bummer but it was fun. Once it saw me it got second wind and it was on again!. Anyway - finally landed it and weighed it - 28. 4lbs. I was pooped so I idled the boat back to the rig - 10min??.. I ried that again with the biggest mullet I had - tossed it up there and started to finish rigging the other line when - Oh Oh - the mullet had been consumed again except this time I could hear the line running out! My first instinct was to try to get it away from the rig. I put the boat in forward and pointed away from the rig. I was watching he line and this thing was heading for the rig - peeling line. I got really lucky - I saw it break surface and running but on my side of the rig! At first i thought it was a king. I grabbed the rod and started fighting it in. I got it up to the boat (20ft or so) and it spooked. It ran like the dickens but I did get to see it was a Ling! YEA!!! My first one ever!!! Fought him back and fourth for a little while and I was getting eally tired. Finally landed him. While trying to measure him his top spikes sliced my hand in 2 lines - OUCH - BLOOD - OHHH - no problem - Just wrapped it up in a rag and put that sucker in my box as he measured 37.25in. Well, this ended the big fish game. I decided to head in while I was still ahead - but - the winds had picked up and the water got a little rougher. Fortunately I was going with the wind and waves which made for a pretty decent ride in. On my way in I get a phone call from a buddy in Galveston who had 50lbs fresh extra large shrimp at $4/lb. This was great!! Ling, Shrimp, What Next?? He met me at the ramp and I needed the big cooler for the shrimp so - clean the ling - sorry - no pictures. I had an extra 48qt cooler in the truck and a quart of shrimp so - what the heck - try the jetties for some trout or reds. Well, that is exactly what happened Trout and Reds! The bad thing was it was around 7:00pm and little daylight left. With every catch I was painfully reminded about Ling's top fins. Ended up with keepers as follows: 1 37.25in Ling 50lb fresh shrimp 1 Red Fish 28" and 8.2lb 1 Red Fish 26" and 7.4lb 1 Spec 27" and 6.1b 1 Spec 22.5" and 4.1lb 1 Spec 20" and 4.0lb 2 Specs at 18" 1 Spec at 16.5" Got home around 11:00 PM - showered and passed out -- What A Day!! Photos Attached: Also cought a sand trout:

Holy Speckled Trout Batman -- That's a SOW Congrats on some very nice trout and redfish and for getting your first Ling. Sounds like one heck of an afternoon. I wish I lived closer, I would love to get out there and partake in some of that action.... Save some fillets for me and a couple pounds of that fresh shrimp.... Good job Dean and thanks for the pics... Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Great going Dean. A lot better than my Grand Isle experience. Where's the picture of the ling? I've been known to pinch a tail or two in my life!
