All I can say is fishing sucked in Grand Isle this weekend...at least the little we did. Weather was real nasty and the guys did not want to bullred fish which I think we would have had better luck at. We fished Thur afternoon and Friday AM. We should have been fishing Friday afternoon but they did not start the crawfish boil until about 3 pm and by time they were finished no one felt like going. Saturday the weather ensured no fishing would be done.

We hit a bunch of trout holes with NO success. Ended up with one trout, one 18 lb Red, and I personally lost two big reds. 12 lb test is just not enough for those bulls in Grand Isle and the oyster shells. We got stopped by a game Warden Friday morning and he stated no one was catching fish the last three days but that every boat stopped the last weekend had easy limits in the same spots I told him I fished. About Right. I took a few pictures but nothing real exciting that I'll try to post. I'm expecting some pictures from the Alabama gang but my home computer crashed so don't know when I'll have time to post them.

Man that's way off from just a month ago. They moved out but where did they go?

Maybe ya'll just caught all of them? That pile in your profile pic simply screams "rape" to me. :-)

Rob, I don't know where to fish in Grand Isle is most of the problem. It is coastal wide open oyster reef fishing and about two hours from where I fish. Got to know the hot reefs and I have not fished there in almost 5-6 years and seldom fished it then. This Alabama group trip went from my home waters to Grand Isle due to camp access but they were not nearly as pleased with fish output. They are Still killing them in my home waters. Don't worry, I won't catch them all before you get here. I promise!

My profile pic was just a small catch last spring or summer that I caught or me and my nephew caught if I remember right. Nothing impressive.

A few pictures of my ride down to GI. I never broke my camera out once I got there mainly due to everyone else was snapping pictures like crazy but my computer at home has been corrupted and I can't pull up my home email accts at work. The first picture is a picture of the road leading to GI. Not much shoulder and you hope you stay on the road.

A couple of pictures off the Leeville bridge going down to Grand Isle. In the second picture it will give you an idea of the coastal errosion going on South La. In 1972 when I moved here I remember this entire view was completely land with a few ditches (what we call trenaces)cut in it. Absolutely amazing.
Bayou Lafourche View
Coastal erosion
A view of the bayside of Grand Isle. It is about a 7 mile long island that probably is about a mile wide in it's widest spot. It is amazing the money invested just in camps into this piece of land that would no longer be here if not for man's interventions against errosion.
Bayside
And JUST FOR ROB, picture of the Coast Guard boat right where I launch. Grand Isle has a pretty impressive little Coast Guard station.

Man it's absolutely changed down there. Station Grand Isle was known for being one of the absolutely toughest places to be assigned for a single man. Looks like thats still the case after seeing the pics.

Heck of a place down there. You can see and feel the bayou eco system as it drops into the Gulf of Mexico. I bet there's been million up million of pounds of filets trimmed in that small place?

Thanks for the share Wade. We all need to celebrate with one bottle of Dixie Beer to celebrate the launch of our fishing adventure.

Fishing has been unusaul all the way around so far this year, the abnormal weather patterns has the fish not sure whether to feed , , or wind thier watch.

Well, I was humbled this weekend. Fished with a friend from Lafayette Saturday. Fished most of the day for a gafftop and a shark. Thought it was just an off day with the strong East wind but am finding out everyone absolutely spanked the speckle trout Saturday. I guess every dog has his day. Hopefully will get them next time.

Well Bigun, Once I get my ride back we can hook up. I think i know where the big trout are right now and probably can be cought consistently with the right conditions - along with the reds. I have been dying to try my generator and light on the jetties but want someone with me when I do. If the weather is right we can go out for a while too.

Let me know your availability for the next month and we can try to make it happen.

Dean, Will all depend on whether charter fishing comes around or not. Not looking good right now though. It appears the two companies I was running for are going to fish very little this year. I'm just glad it is just hobby money and not my living. You need to talk to your brother and you two come down for an extended weekend. I'm sure we could put a hurting on some trout around here.

I think Mike meant thet he would pay for the hotel since we would be using my boat and gas? I guess that would leave Bigun to buy bait:-)

The San Luis is an OK hotel! The Yaght Basin has closed theirs.

My schedule is pretty full the next three months. However I have no problem paying for bait. I do think he was talking about you though due to I've never seen Mike pay for anything though Dean :-)

Was it this one pulled of Louisiana Sportsman web site:

Near ten pound trout
Big Lake Guide Service guide Capt. Todd Jeffers with a 9.75 lb. trout caught last Thursday on Lake Calcasieu. A Norton Sand Eel, Jr. took this beauty fished in shallow water took this beauty and the fish ate the bait at the boat!

I fished with this charter captain in Lake Fork two years ago. His dad works at Halliburton in Lafayette.

All I know is the reports are the trout are on fire. The guy I charter for has whacked them the last three days. Almost a 45 minute ride both ways and he was in with a 3 man limit of 75 this morning right at 10 am. Can't wait for tomorrow so I can go get skunked again!
