Took a break from moving homes and redesiging them last week to take my grandfather to do the single greatest things in his existance. FISH. He loves to fish. It is a lot of work to take him fishing but it is a lot of fun as I never know when our last trip will be. He was 92 in November. Anyway here it is. We caught over 50 with only 8 being keepers. Largest was 16" followed by 14 and 12 and the others right at and a little over 10".

I never thought of crappie as much of a shad eater but I guess I was wrong.

Hey BigP... Nice looking perch. I wish my granddad or Dad was still alive so I could take them fishing, both loved it. feel privliged (SP). As for the shad, it is the reason the perch are so big and healthy in lake Conroe. I witnessed a school of huge crappie on a big school of shad last year and when I 1st saw it I thought it was bass. We caught several on 3/8 oz. spinners before they left. The ones we boated were spitting up gobs of shad.

Sorry yall no pics of gramps pulling in the fish. I'll take some on the next trip. Most of my memories of hunting trips are from me being by myself. All of my fishing memories involve my dad and grandpa. When I was 11 me, my grandpa and grandma fished 5 days a week for 2 months straight. We were catching crappie for Frito Lay where my dad works for them to have a fish fry. We would be on Lake Proctor by 6 in the morning and have our 75 fish and home by 1. Those were trips I will never forget. We finished that summer with close to 200# of crappie fillets for the plants fish fry.

When I was 8 me, mt grandpa and dad were fishing at Proctor. I hooked an 11# blue cat on a minnow rig. Almost went over the side of the boat before my gramps caught the waist of my pants. I am reminded of that trip all the time.
