Well it all started when I met Gerald whom I charter with for lunch and he asked me if I wanted to go frogging tonight? Does a frog have legs? Of course the answer was yes. Around 3 in the afternoon I got a call at work and Gerald said instead of going frogging you want to go floundering tonight and surf fishing if we get out there early enough? Is a flounder flat? So I left work by 3:30 pm, picked up my two youngest kids at daycare, dropped them off with my niece who was already watching my oldest, changed clothes and took off to Dularge. We left the boat shed around 5 and were out at the secret flounder hole one hour and 10 minutes later.
We caught the trout just to the right of this cribbing

I don't waste anytime jumping into the water and the speckle trout bite was immediately on catching them pretty steady in a trough on the beach in ripping current on an all white H&H cocahoe plastic. I had 23 on the stringer prior to dark with a good dozen lost if not more. Gerald caught 19 and the other guy with us caught 12.
me & my trout
Walked back to the boat and we took a liquid beverage break and ate some Popeye's chicken I picked up on the way down there (I know Rob will love this statement: drunk inside joke)! We got the underwater lights rigged up and off to floundering we go. Well our secret flounder hole was so secret the flounders did not even know about it. Not sure what the problem was considering this place has NEVER let us down before. The tide was coming up and the surf was full of the little silver minnows and bait but no flounder. Not even seeing the old imprints were they had been laying. We ended up with 9 before calling it quits around 11:30ish. Oh well, the speckle trout trip alone was worth the trip out there. Hopefully the flounder will start coming up better with the heat and we will make a few more trips out there this summer. What a blast.
Trout in a chest
The new 22' Blazer bay with the 225 Yamaha 4Stroke is a sweet ride. Not nearly as fast as the two strokes but I think the reduction in noise is almost worth losing the speed and the gas consumption is almost 1/2 of the same boat with the 250 on it.
One of the boats I'll be using to charter out of

Wade, once again, even your bad trips are better than my good ones! Sorry to hear that the flounder did not cooperate, but glad that that the specks did. Come on July . . .

Sounds like a blast. I have not been gigging in at least 10 years or so myself. Sounds like the trout bite was good!!

Those are some great looking fish! Glade to hear and see you had a great time. Cold drinks, good friends, and fish, doesn't get any better.

Went ride around in Lake Barre hitting different islands and well head structures for three trout late Saturday afternoon. Like the fish just disappeared. Was a real strange tide. The water was real high up the bayou and where we launched and still pouring in but once you got out on the coast it was pouring out and as low as it gets. When we went home 5 hours later tides were still doing exact same things. Apparently was why the fish did not bite. Talked to a couple of charter fishing friends and they struggled all day Saturday so I did not feel left out. Stayed home and cut grass and cooked fish for the kids today in very high South winds. I'll bet the redfish bite was on! Will have to wait until next weekend now. Hope someone had better luck than me this weekend.

That is the ever elusive cajun cork fish. I'm thinking of getting it mounted?

From the fish splashing on the left side of course! Plus there were some pretty good troughs where we were fishing in spots.
