I got my credit card statement in yesterday and had a big charge from the kansas dept. of wildlife. Looks like my hunting gang got our buck tags. Still waiting for the official letter but things are looking good.

By the way I also got drawn for Hagerman Seg. B.

Now if I can only connect on a buck at one of the two I'll be happy.

Texfisher, hate to bust your bubble but they charge everyone using your money for a month or two. Draw is not until mid-July. They then refund your money if not drawn minus the $21. Good luck though. I love hunting in Ks!

Bigun, That's what I've heard so I'm not completly counting on it. I was thinking the drawing was already done but when I went back to the Kansas website I noticed that they don't send out results until mid July. Stinks that they draw interest on my money while I wait and I get to pay the finance charge for nothing.

Got the tag in the mail today. We got drawn for unit A9 which is in the southeast corner of the state. Bigun, do you know anything about this part of the state?

We'll be making some trips up there starting next month to get an idea of where to hunt and stay.

With getting drawn for Hagerman and Kansas I'm going to be a busy hunter this season. Hope my wife will put up with me long enough to get through the season.

Right now were planning on hunting public land. I'll have to get on kansas parks and wildlife to see what is available. It would be nice to find a farmer or someone who has some private land that would allow us to hunt. I don't suspect that is practiced anymore since land owners know they can get money for hunting rights. Big concern is finding some land with lodging close by. Any info you have about the area would be appreciated. I figure we'll head up there in 3 to 4 weeks.

I'm assuming you are rifle hunting. I'll see what I can find out. What is closest town you planning on staying in?

Really need to check out the Walkin hunting areas also. I'm not sure when the Walkin hunting area guide comes out. Probably not until August at the earliest I would think??

Lots of public land in that area. As Wade mentioned I would look at Walk in areas (Some are designated for Deer, need to make sure which ones) Also depending upon exactly where you are lots of public hunting around lakes etc also. You have the right idea about checking with KPW. They can help. Depending upon what town you are close to there may not be much available for lodging and I would suggest making reservations as soon as you have an idea where you want to be staying. I lived about 3-4 hrs West (depending where you are hunting) an dated a girl for a couple years that lived in Girard (SE corner) but not likely that will help you get a place to hunt :-). Private land will be tough without an inside contact,,,,,,, But can't hurt to knock on a few doors. Also check with KPW to see if they have a list of land owners that might be cooperative. There are also some outfitters in the area,,,,
Love to fish and hunt.

Tex, I'm under impression that is a whole different type of area than I hunt in Ks. Lots more cover. Good luck. If you are anywhere around Parsons, Ks let me know. I got family there that may be able to get you some inside help maybe? Not sure due to never asked.

You may go to www.bowsite.com and go to Kansas and ask. There are some real arse holes on there though so you will get some negative comments about being non-residents but since draw has come out there has been some come out against them.

Congrats Tex on getting drawn for Kansas. With all that tournament winnings you have made this year, just pay someone to hunt on their property... :-)
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Bigun, we drew an archery tag. I've already started looking at the county maps on KPW. Maps show all the public land in each county and what type of hunting is allowed. I expect to get a better idea of where we'll hunt when I get a chance to go up there. Do they mail out the walk in area guide or do you have to get one while up there? Sounds like it would be a good resource.

I usually pull it down off internet for counties interested in. I'm sure they will mail you one if you ask them to. While area you are going to is quite a bit different geology than area I hunt, Don't be scared to hunt small wooded areas like old homesteads but do not get in too deep, hunt the edges of these places where they come out and start feeding. Prime places for bedding. They will usually bed on the highest spot in the area due to they love to be able to see around them so try to stay away from that area. Also any 1/2 miles fence lines going to cover or food. They love 1/2 mi lines. Hope all this helps and good luck. Expecting to see big LDP!

Thanks for the info. I'll probably keep picking your brain up until season starts. Not much to ask right now until I get a look at the area.
