Wes, Chris and I (The 3 Circus Midgets) joined Wade (BigUn) for three days of fishing the waters of South Eastern Louisiana.

Our 500 mile trip to Houma Louisiana originates in Austin. Simek's diesel fired Ford provided excellent fuel mileage.

Rob

Wes online tracking Hurricane Dennis as we roll

Wes and I called Louisiana Fish and Game enroute to Houma and order 3 day, charter fishing licenses. Out of State Charter fishing license is a big whopping 5 bucks! I do believe I see a little sweat popping from Wes's forehead in this pic? :-)Simek orders via the Net before rolling from Austin. Excellent processing - quick and painless

We finally hit the main marina near Theriot Louisiana and call Wade on the cell. Wade's fishing a few holes and runs in to pick up. Wished we could get some of this thunderstorm build-up here.

Ice is gathered at this camp in town before shoving off to a more remote and more primitive fish camp further up the bayou :-)

Wes running the Carolina Skiff around from the Marina to our staging/parking area

Several fish camps are rounded up and towed by locals just in case Hurricane Dennis swings into South Eastern LA. Here's one of several scenes we witnessed late last week

Scenes in camp. Cold A/C, power pole fed electricity, television/stereo entertainment, shower/bathroom and simply rough living conditions. Wes nearly froze the first night and struggled to stay warm. Braving harsh conditions. :-)

Scenes up and down the bayou at camp

Scenes of our trip as we hit the water each day.

An old trappers cabin used for years as he lived off the back country swamps and bayous.

Mighty odd to catch bass mixed with redfish. I nicknamed these bass "Snook Bass." Any bass that can live with redfish in these conditions deserves a more exotic name in my opinion. :-)

Course we managed to catch some reds, speckled trout and black bass in numbers to literally fill our oversized coolers

The heat and humidity take it's toll on each of us as we sweat on the water. Simek shows us he can sleep sitting up....

.....and Wes has assumed the 3rd wind position.

All in all each of us pulled our weight with fish caught this weekend. Overall...roughly 100+ speckled trout were caught, 30 redfish and roughly 12 largemouth bass. We managed to catch several black drum and several gafftopsail catfish on plastics and bronze plated steel as well. Just an unbelievable fisheries there and Wade stated "the redfishing is way off right now." Way off the charts is all I can say.

AAAAAIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...... I can't wait till next time compadres and thanks for the memories!!!!! Wade you are one heck of a stand-up guy. The food and fishing was absolutely unbelievable -THANK YOU!

Sweetly done Rob! Captured the weekend well. You guys would not know what to do if the redfish would have been on this weekend. That was absolutely the slowest fishing weekend I've had all year but like Wes said "this is more fish than I will cook in a year". Key word being COOK. I think Cindy put way to much water up in the marsh and spread the reds way out. I brought my camera and did not take ONE picture! I was to busy laughing all the time. Can't wait for you guys to make it back.
All I KNOW is three Texans are going down!

Thursday morning found me loading up my boat with groceries, fishing equipment, and food. I then proceed to cut my grass knowing what it will look like if not. I then take off to cut my dad's grass but I can't get the riding mower to start. Oooooo well, off to the camp to unload and get everything set up. I got to the camp around 10 am and unloaded and got everything running. Finish up around 11:15 am or so and I was planning on going back into town to meet these guys at my dad's. Suddenly it hits me I could just get them to meet me at the marina and I would go fishing. I don't even have an empty ice chest so decide I would just catch and release. A Cajun catch and release. Picou will tell you this will never work! I pull up in some small ditches on my duck lease to find High water. Within 50 yds, I notice a pack of redfish. I picked out the one that was most active and immediate hookup on the cooper spoon. At the same time my phone starts ringing and it shows it is Wes! What timing. I let Wes listen to the red croacking and I listen to a few choice words coming back from Wes. I released this fish and within 6 casts I'm hooked up again. I release this fish and within 10 casts I'm hooked up again. Well PQ knows where this is going. This is to easy so I make up a stringer and keep this one. I hook up another one and another fish on the string. I can still see the fish but they won't hit the spoon suddenly. I throw out a baby bass fluke and immediate hookup. I miss this fish when it gets in the grass. Throw out the fluke and hook up again. Another fish on the stringer. Suddenly no more fish. I cover a good 1/2 mile with no bites. I pull into a big pond and hook up a 26" red and throw him on the string. I realize I better be getting back to the marina due to these guys should be getting here soon. I pull into Gerald's boat shed to wait on them and Gerald is cleaning frogs! He had caught 400 the night before with some friends and I manage to get a bag full of legs. UMMMMMMM. Gerald is pulling all his boats out of the shed in case Dennis turns so help him by picking them up at the marina when I get the call that the guys are here. We waited out a storm, got some ice and got caught up with what has been happening. And the rest was captured way to well by Rob and I'm sure Chris will be chiming in also. These Texans came with a great attitude and ability to catch fish even though it was extremely slow. While the reds cooperated they did not do it La STYLE! The trout saved the day being on fire in the mornings chasing shrimp everywhere on top of the water. Literally EVERY CAST Friday morning for over an hour with 65 keepers and unknow how many were caught and released! If we would have tied on double rigs we could have sunk the boat. Unfortunately a lot of under limit fish but still a blast to catch. We then went redfishing and wound up with around 8 or so. We went back to the camp, BBQ some Kansas deer burgers and jalapeno sausage, and soaked up some A/C. Friday afternoon was AFRICA HOT and the fish did not want to cooperate. We found reds but they were spooky and would stay just out of casting range of the boat. It is annoying seeing schools of redfish that just know you are there. We still wound up with around 8 reds though with Wes catching probably the biggest one of the weekend after I spotted it on a beeline running to the boat and I overthrew it. This fact made his weekend more than anything! More trout and redfish Sat AM and we even got into bass when I schooled them on the use of a spinner bait!!!! :-) Like I said a great time was had by all and I really enjoy bringing new people to my world. Can't wait for the next one GUYS little alone Hunting Season. I'm ready for the Capote Doe roundup. Are we there yet, Chris? :-)

Wes did not catch any fish... I don't see any pictures as proof... :-) Excellent recap fellers, I am eagerly anticipating Chris' report and I know that all Wes will write is --"Had a great time."

I had to look at that picture of the fish being cleaned twice. At first I thought it was Wes cleaning fish but in my mind I knew that was impossible so I had to look again and see that it was really Wade... :-)

Rob, thanks for taking me back. I have to agree with Bigboy on the trappers shack... That is the most "In Order" I think I have ever seen it... :-) Excellent pictures, excellent recap, and looks like a time to remember. I sure hope I can get back down there soon. Those pics make me miss it even more.

Wade, you are by far the best addition to my family that could have ever happened. You know how to take care of folks and are always fun to be around. That not having an empty ice chest and catch & release is priceless... :-) Great job Cuz...

Here is one for each of you...

Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Great recap and pics as always from the great Zaborky.

Wes, Make sure you keep at least one picture of the 'gator to reminc you of what you really need to shoot with your bow the next time you get a chance to go gator huntin'. :0)

Congrats to all on a good time.

Bigun, How far away are you from Saline, LA? Wife and I are possibly headed there to visit her Grandparents (married 67 years) sometime in August. Might need to book a fishing guide while we are on vacation if we can swing the time.

Will, was not sure so I had to look it up on mapquest. Would be about 4 to 4 1/2 hrs away from there. Come to find out it is not that far from where I use to deer hunt in Arcadia. Lots of deer just no size due to they shoot everything!!!

Height is only relative when there is something in the picture to compare with. As far as the handsome... One nice thing about you a day is all that I can say so -- sorry... :-) Look at that picture of you and Wes on the front deck fishing, that is a great illustration of how misleading a photo can be. Ya'll could almost pass for twins in that pic... LMAO......

BTW, was the fish pictures with no hats on to rub in the fact that I have none or to introduce us to the new hairstyle of the 21st century? :-)

Awsome trip. Picou, I did catch some fish. Wade spent most of the trip crying about how he couldn't believe these texans were kicking his that bad.

Will, that is not the gator I want to shoot next time. We did see one about 10 or 11 feet long, that is the one I want.

Wade, thanks again for the invite down there. You are a great host.
