We rented a beach house in Sea Isle on Galveston West Beach. The home is beachfront with a private walk-over to the beach.

Along with this rental I get access to a 900' private pier over the bay that I fished growing up as a teen when my father built beach homes downt there. I will be fishing every night or flounder gigging in San Luis Pass. The kids want to fish some and go crabbing also so we should have a lot of coastal activities going on all week. We stay from Sunday to Sunday the last week in July and I am looking forward to it.

I'll be hooking up with a TRB member on the first Sunday night to fish his canal lights, drink a few cold beers, and go do some flounder gigging.

Hopefully Emily stays way South and just provides a little tidle surge to clean the seaweed off the beaches... This is going to be a long 9 days... :-(

To bad it isn't a week later Picou you could go on our offshore trip with us the 6th. :-) Good luck and I hope to see plenty of weekday updates on your progress. We were going this weekend to put the hurt on the jetties but the weather just doesn't look like it would be worth the trip.

I saw that trip 'P' and had it stayed the previous weekend I would have probably joined in. I hope to hook up with Bigdog during the week for a little fishing also.

I will make every effort to give updates. All depends on if I can get internet out there. Hopefully I can jump onto a neighbor's wireless... :-)

Worst case, I should be able to dial into work and do it from that account.

Good luck PQ! I'm sorry about never getting those baits mailed to you. Think there is still time? I've just been to dang busy between the midget trip and Caroline's dancing in San Antonio.

Don't worry about it Bigun, I have plenty of baits to take and I am not through shopping... :-) I am headed to Cabelas hopefully this week to take advantage of the sale and pick up Jessica her first rifle -- Remington 700 ADL synthetic .243 w/ scope for $359.

I am very excited about fishing and flounder gigging. I bought Connie her own lantern and I will get her a gig also for the trip. I sure hope there are some flounder up shallow at night with the moving tide. The tides are going to be moving out at dark so I have hopes of getting some flatfish action.

Quit being a tightarse PQ!! You should have bought the underwater lights. You would never use a lantern again and probably not much less than a lantern!!!

Good luck however!

I used the underwater light many years ago and did not like it -- at all.... I like the lantern for giving me more illuminated area and it also gives me light out of the water when I need it.

I just hope that the flounder are up in the pass and in shallow enough water to see them. I will keep an eye on the tide charts and try to spend as much time in moving water as possible. I am excited about night fishing and giggin. Since most of my fishing will be at night, I doubt that I will ever make it to fish the surf in the mornings but there is always a chance. I certianly have bought enough lures for it... :-)

Man, you just gotta cajun improve them. Change them out to a twelve volt bulb and use small gel cell battery. You light up everything and have a Qbeam to walk back with!!!! :-) I'll meet you down there one night with mine and walk circles around your lantern and show you how to gig flounders.

Sorry PQ I have to side with Wade on this one.

I used to rig my own lights with 12 volt bulbs and float a car battery on a inner tube behind me. Monted the light on a 5 foot handle with a refector (to keep light out of my eyes) and can be used under or above the water!!!! Just have a couple bulbs in case you break one. As long as you dip the light every once in a while it usually won't get hot enough to break when you put it under water.

WORKED FREAKIN GREAT!!!!!

Best of both worlds, if a little chop or water a couple feet deep, you can use under the water, in very shallow water you could use above the water.

Added bonus. You can lay it in the water (floats with wood handle) to use both hands after you stuck a fish.

man,,,,,,,, I have not stuck a flounder in probably 10 years,,,,,,,

Pull a car battery behind huh... What about those times that I have to walk across the sand? Then I have to lug that battery behind me. Bigun, I would have to rig a belt to hold the gelcel, then make sure to have plenty of wire to allow me to set the pole down if needed, have to re-charge the battery before every trip, etc... The lantern is so simple, I am using the canisters and one lasts all night long (not that I stay out that late). The only thing I have to deal with is the lantern, no extra wires, not harness, no battery, no strings, etc... When I stick a flounder I hold the lantern and gig in the same hand and then reach down and string the fish while pinned to the ground. If I am gonna drag anything out there, it is going to be a cooler of beer... :-)

The light is probably better when in deeper water but usually where I am gigging the deeper water is too sandy to see thru anyway. That is why we stick to a foot or less water generally.

man, you are still having to string a fish also. Get you a stainless steel bar drill a hole in one end and round and sharpen the other with a grinder. Tie a string in the hole with a cork on the end. Run fish thru spear! Man, you are gigging in the caveman days. I would gig circles around you!

And by the way, you put gelcell in a backpack. Only way to go.

JUst carry a welder with you and throw the leads in a promising looking body of water.

I think this is the first episode of "Trash Talking" on FTN. I like it and hope to see lots more in the future. Once again PQ good luck. Warm those fish up for me as I will be there the next week.

PQ - I have one of them Honda Generators and a 1000wat studio light. All you need to do is find a spot where there is a nice flat near a sharp drop and set it up and they will come. You are wilcome to use it!

Wade - if you come to gig then let me know. I want to go at least once and it would be cool to hook up!

I just checked my service provider and they have a dial-up number for Galveston so I should have no problems getting online from the beach house. I just hope I have pictures to provide... I try to keep the camera handy...

Dean, I don't really know where to go set that thing up to fish off the shore -- within a reasonable driving distance from the house. I'll look at the pass on the East side and see if it may work there. I'll call you and let you know.
