Well… Here we are down on the coast and 1 day has already passed during our 7 day vacation. So far the weather has been beautiful, the surf is in great shape, the beach has some seaweed but it has not deterred the kids one bit from sand castles, sitting on waves, and collecting shells. Everyone is having a great time and it would be an understatement to say that life is good…  We arrived yesterday around 4:00pm and the view off the front deck is every bit worth the price we paid for the rental of this quaint little beachfront home. It did not take long after we got the truck unpacked for the kids to head to the sandy shoreline to brave the shark infested waters – despite the fact we watched JAWS last weekend.  I was still trying to make sure that everything was in order and looked up to see them all gone… Once everyone was back in the house I noticed one of Bigun’s favorite drinks and found out that this was mother-in-law’s vacation beverage of choice…. As the sun set on the first day of our vacation we enjoyed a meal of Shrimp Etouffe made from shrimp purchased on the way in. Being a family that lives 400 miles North of the shoreline, fresh seafood is a real treat. We sat together as a family and watched the sun slowly set while we enjoyed our meal. Of course, once the meal was complete my real objective was calling me. I tossed the rods in the truck, grabbed my tackle bag and headed out fishing. The general plan for the night was to meet up with Brent from TRB and do some trout fishing over the submerged lights in the canals. He was unable to make it here at dark for understandable reasons so I headed to the 900’ pier over the bay and the small sand trout and specks were popping the water under each light. My first cast yielded an acrobatic ladyfish. Next cast was a small sandtrout followed by a 13” speckled trout a few casts later. I continued catching undersized fish for a few hours when Brent showed up and told me he already had one trout in the ice chest. We left the pier and proceeded to participate in the most unusual type of night time trout fishing I have ever experienced. In my past, I have always fished overhead lights on the water. What Brent has available is a series of submerged green lights in the canals and when you walk up slowly – as if stalking the location – you can see the trout and determine the size of them up front. We immediately started catching fish on either live, free-lined shrimp or in my case some chartreuse plastic minnows rigged tandem. We caught some under sized trout and some that were just over the legal mark – into the box with them… But, as the night wore on, the bigger trout came in and my experience level increased. I learned how to keep the shrimp form the smaller trout and only allow the larger trout to get to my bait. We also spent some time at a friend of Brent’s place on the bay with some very bright overhead lights where the trout were on fire, popping the top everywhere and I had several doubles on my tandem rig baits. It got to a point that my flimsy hooks could not hold up and I began loosing every fish so we decided to go back to the canals for the remainder of the night. We departed that location but not before Brent managed an awesome 22” speck on a piggy perch. With the sun beginning to rise we decided to make a last run at through the lights and try to put a few more in the box. The last 3 fish were all over 18” and made an excellent ending to my first night fishing in Sea Isle. I want to thank Brent (West_ender) for showing me the ropes and teaching me how to work those trout over the green lights. That was truly and experience and we managed some good fish over the night. The beer was cold, the fishing was great, and the company was excellent. Nothing like a trip to the coast making new friends and catching yella-mouths…. Thanks again Brent, I really enjoyed it buddy… Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Man, Looks like you're off to a good start. You didn't miss much at Texoma friday night. I only caught 3 fish for 5.7 lbs. The guys Sunday night faired much better. One guy had 8 fish and around 16lbs. Keep the pics coming. I need something to read while at work. If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related. Yesterday was another great day and Connie's sister and husband showed up to stay for a couple of days. We grilled shrimp, scallops, and veggies on skewers for dinner and enjoyed more beer. We fished again last night but man the fishing was different. I caught a ton of small specks up to 14" but could not get fish on the pier or over the green lights over 15". My brother-in-law (Buddy) and I ended up over at Brent's place w/ the hopes of getting Budddy a trout on artificial but it was not to be. There were very few trout over the lights, he did hook 2 but they shook off. We went back to the pier and caught more small trout and Buddy did manage to land 3 for the night. We called it quits at 2:30am. We are debating what to do today -- fishing, crabbing, etc... Then tonight Buddy and I will be headed to the San Luis Pass fishing pier to see if we can come up with some keepers. I will take more pictures and post tomorrow. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Forgot to mention, we have not even tried to go flounder gigging yet. The bay is so dirty right now I am not sure that we would be able to see any flounder. We may stop off and try that tonight before the pier. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish
