Man - I cant get this new Grady 252 center console off of my mind. Twin 150 Yamahopper 4 strokes and high sides. Nice deck lay out and a head. I am afraid I might do something stupid - like buy it!

That is more like what you need to do the fishing you want to do. Costly but more like what you need.

I would think it all depends on whether you are staying out over night, fishing two or three primarily bottom fishing, or going out in the winter you definitely what a cuddy. If you are looking to fish 4-6 people, do a lot of throwing, and going out on just day trips you would probably want to look at the CC. Just my opinion on the uses between the two.

Mortgage would be about $535 per month with the Ranger as the down payment. It might be cheaper to hire a guide - I have tried that but when I shell out $800 I feel guilty. Also my fishing schedule is very random and unpredictable. It is hard to find a guide on 12hr notice - or even 2hr notice.

I'd stay overnight occasionally in spring, fall, and winter but sleeping in the humidity is quite questionable. Yesterday I was speaking w/another sales guy and he said I could put an ac system on this 258 cuddy but it would be an after market product. Maybe I should check into it.

Sleeping on board and already being on the water early would be a good thing because I do not like getting up at 4am for anything!

Decisions decisions....

I thought about a used boat but then I think - if the Ranger was a used boat with no warranty I would have been in trouble. What is to say that someone else is not trying to dump their "Friday Boat"?

Dean, I could start looking for you. I got some connections that I would know what you are buying. To me, that is the only way to buy a boat like this: Used. To many of them get bought and not used. But you are right. It is always a decision. Have you checked out the McKee crafts? I don't offshore fish anymore so don't keep up with them but my friends have been talking about their new offshore rigs. I doubt would be much cheaper but I don't know.

Right now I Know of an older 25 Wellcraft coastal cuddy with twin Yamaha's (can't remember hp right off) with newly rebuilt water manifolds you could probably pick up for $10K or less. I'm sure there are other's around but don't keep up with it but I know a mechanic who gets called about any boat for sale in area I fish so they can get his opinion.

Just bite the bullet and get a 32' boat w/ dual 454 big blocks and all the amenities. Worst case, you can sell the house and live on your boat... :-)

Thanks Mike - Good idea - Can you see that behind my truck?

Wade, I was hoping to get 4 strokes. I hear Cape Cod makes a good boat as well? I am also considering where the service center would be for what ever I buy. My Suzuki was only servicable by 1 place locally and it was 10-15 miles away - Travis..

I am going to look at boats.com too and compare. One advantage to the new one at Marine Max is they will take the Ranger as trade giving me $35K for it :-( and resulting in a $2,200 tax savings. ( Then all of my worries are over :-) )haha....

Well, went for a final look at the Grady before I signed the dotted line. I was with a friend and he noticed some pretty significant cracks in the gel-coat around the fuel tank fill. The sales guys told us it was because something hit it but we looked for a point of impact and none could be found. Not even a crease or minor scratch. Our conclusion - Stress Cracks...

Forget it - I just want something cheap that will get me to the jetties. I give up - maybe I'm not meant to have a boat...

You ought to look at the aluminum Gravois. Really nice boats that all the offshore charter fisherman in this area has started running. I don't see where they have a website but here is picture of one. My charter fishing friend has either a 26 or 27' boat and it is real nice also.

Mike, we need to get Dean into bowhunting so he can buy us a place to go hunt!!! :-) Fishing is boring once you get the archery bug and all the neat things you can buy that goes along with it! Absolutely addicting. But I'm sure you have tried Mike!

I feel guilty killing mamals. My wife has made me soft. Mike can vouch for my wife's position. Nope ---- I can only kill fish!

Really though, I do not mind killing things I just don't like making them suffer when the kill is not instant and I have a hard time killing at close range. Comparatively speaking, killing fish is some how different.

You kill things while bowhunting? My wife thinks I just buy stuff as an excuse to go drink on Wes' porch and make fun of Mike!

You must have got the killin part from your brother. He is the only one worried about that stuff. :-)

Now I am looking at a 23' or 21' Sea Hunt Triton series.

http://seahuntboats.com/05t232.html

http://seahuntboats.com/05t212.html

What will be the performance difference between 21' and 23'?

Anyone heard anything negative about Sea Hunt?

I've seen the smaller versions around here but know nothing about them.

2' would be the difference. :-) More distance you get the better it should ride wave to wave.

Dean you may want to check out the hulltruth website. Someone could probably give you better info on there than anywhere else.

Dean,

If you buy a used boat make sure you have a qualified boat mechanic go over it. It's money well spent and could possibly save you thousands.
