Brought two customers of Phillip's services Friday am redfishing. Got on them early and had 9 in the boat by 8 am and don't you know we did not catch another fish that morning. Tide went absolutely dead and so did the fish. Friday afternoon I had a bachelor party group come in. Come to find out the father and sons are from the Quitman, Tx area and the son getting married is a Texas A&M grad. I brought the uncle fishing who is from Florida and he found out what it was like to pull on 28"+ redfish. About as fast as you could get a crab on the bottom you had a fish on. Sat AM I brought the future father in law who is from Guadalupe Tx right before where I go deer hunting and the same guy as the night before and jumped on three quick reds on spoons and like the morning before the fish just STOPPED. No more fish caught once again getting stung by the lack of tide! Saturday afternoon I got the bachelor party buddies and once again we put the pounding on the redfish fishing bottom cracked crab. They found out quickly that we have a special place and the reds are thick. Caught and released and easy thirty five redfish. They actually stopped fishing for a while to get a beer break! Worse part I forgot my camera and never made it back home staying down in Dularge all the whole time. Bad Part: It looks like we are in the direct path of the big bad mamajama storm. Stayed up to near midnight last night tieing stuff down at the boat sheds and hauling boats into town. Woke up early this morning and boarded up windows and picked up all my trash laying around outside! Think we are hightailing out in about five minutes to get to Lafayette, La to my sisters if the traffic does not keep us from going. Saying some prayers and well wishes that this storm just does not wipe out South La and my beloved marshes. I'll try to keep you updated. It kinda looks like a SNOOK!

It looks like my home area has been spared the brute force of the storm with the eye going just enough East of Houma. It took the best possible turn for us. We have kept in touch with a few people who stayed in Houma and they said there is some wind and a little rain but not as bad as expected. Power is out in places but others have power. Tidal surge in Cocodrie was only registering about 5 ft early this morning at Lumcon facility. I'm sure this is enough to wipe out some homes and camps in the lower lying areas of Terrebonne parish when you consider the waves that will be on top of the tidal surge. My prayers and thoughts go out to the Grand Isle, Venice, Gulfport area today. Weather in Lafayette is a little windy and dark skies but nothing ominous. We actually stayed up last night and watch the clouds of the hurricane meet up with pressure system that was trying to steer it East. It was quite impressive being right on the border of this. It kinda looks like a SNOOK!

Excellent news Bigun. I was hoping after I saw this morning where it came in that you had been spared. |

Great news Wade. I was hoping that was the case after seeing the reports this morning. Audra, Keith or Gina may know the Quitman group as they are from that general area. Love to fish and hunt.
